Hey guys I'm on the move again and heading for Wollongong and I will start looking for a house in the next month or so. I'll be looking for a place close to a good windsurfing beach/lake and was just wondering if you guys have any recommendations of where to start, Any information would help and be appreciated.

Cheers Jason.

Well Gerroa's the windiest, but if you want all wind directions covered, lakeside or seaside, never want to drive for more than 10 minutes - maybe start looking at Berkeley.

Gerroa is fun but be ready to do plenty of driving. Yes the Nor'Easters can be great and almost anything with a Westerly direction can be fun too but forget it in a Southerly. For that you will need to drive up to Windang or further.

The other problem is that unless you work from home or start your own business there ain't a whole lot of well paying work. Add to that a 25 minute drive to nearest decent shopping area (sorry but the IGA in Gerringong is more akin to shopping in an overpriced Airport)

On the upside you should be saving plenty of money because you'll be cooking at home pretty much 100% off the time. The dinning options in the area are either crap or overpriced and in some cases both.

I think somewhere further North... perhaps Warilla or even Shellharbour (the beach side town not the suburban sprawl of Shellharbour City Centre can get you closer to both Nor'Easter and Southerly locations.

You basically have the choice of living on what used to be the cheap south side, the expensive north side or in the city.

If you like sailing on the lake and the beaches of Warilla and Windang then living down there is the go. Living up north you have all the beaches up there.

I used to live at Warilla, in walking distance to the beach. It was pretty good. Then lived at Primbee which was good too but had to drive to the shops.

The roads and traffic down there are okay so even at peak times its not that difficult getting around the Illawarra compared to Sydney.

I went to school at Berkeley, and some areas used to be pretty rough and ready, but I think a lot of that has changed as more people have bought into the area. For access it would be hard to beat.

Everywhere? I did a letterbox drop around Warilla when I was in high school. I don't think I would want to live there, although I guess anywhere can look bad if you don't know the area. It may have changed a lot too.

Warilla is a top place to live. They have a good footy team too. The Warilla Gorillas.
