Hey Haircut,

How was the Shearwater?

I went out at the golf course, timed my run to perfection, just as I got onto the water with almost no down or outhaul the big buster came through, from 10 to 20 knots in the space of one minute. Back in to crank some more tension on and off I went!! An hour later it stopped just as suddenly.

Was good, managed another planing entry gybe, starting to get the hang of keeping my hair dry but it's still a long way from looking 'fluid'

Hi Mineral1,

Took that sail out on Saturday, it worked just fine. It still needs a little bit more kick upwards, but I can do that by other means (too long to go into detail here but I can give it another couple of degrees by doing something else). It was hard to tell if it was giving me more push, but the top panel was certainly presenting a better angle to the wind.

Unfortunately being an old sail every time I take it out it gets another tear in the ancient monofilm

Nebbian, OK, will try the same with the Diablo and see how it performs. By the looks of it, its going to kick in with some "squashed air" about Thursday. Tomorrow doesnt look too bad, but lately its been "its building, nearly here, followed by "Nar its not, only trickin."

might be a waste of time at train as usual. It's unfortunate the tides not good for shearwater. Interested in a sail at golfcourse instead? The tide is good

Hey Haircut,

OK I'll be at the golf course at 1pm Sunday.

Geez the forecasts are going crazy this time of year hey! Anything more than a couple of days away is a total lottery. Anyway it looks quite unsettled later on next week, might get some good wind out of it

Gestalt, there are always people at the train, so you won't feel lonely if you make the trip... Here's what to do in various wind strengths, based on what the locals do:

Wind 0-5 knots: Sit around saying "D'ya think it'll pick up?"
6-10 knots: Sit around saying "It'll pick up"
11-14 knots: Freestylers go out while the chair police say "You'll never get going in this!!"
15-20 knots: Everyone's out there
21+ knots: I wish!!!

where is the golf course? is it flat water or waves? I think I might try Narrowneck considering the conditions.

it's the secret hardcore sailing spot on the tweed river

actually, it is the widest part of the tweed river running north-south, near the Tweed golf course. It's flattish, similar conditions to shearwater but not quite as lumpy. You get the wind agains't tide effect like shearwater, and the tide direction is the same as the train. It's conveniently close to home for nebs and myself. It was pretty good fun today. The length of the runs are about the same as sailing from the caravan park blue huts to the far end of the sandbar, at the train on a southerly.

I will have to do a trip down there one day. The arrows on the graphs are pointing towards a decent southerly blow for Thurs- shearwater perhaps?

Golf course was fun today. Unfortunately my RX1 succumbed to old age out there, after all that work with trying to perk it up a bit

Thursday looks like the go at Shearwater, without wanting to jinx it it's sure looking like being a big day Tide looks good in the morning, but not really all that bad even by 4pm... Might even be able to break in my 4.5

See you there, Eggs!
