Dear WWA Members and fellow Windsurfers,

THANKS - I trust this email finds you all well, and with the first sea breezes in the air, you too are getting excited about the summer ahead. I’d like to thank those of you who have already renewed your membership for the new season. It’s been a very encouraging response for the committee and we appreciate your support.

PLANNING - We’ve had an extra planning meeting recently and we have outlined some aims for the Association for this season and looking to the future. There's a summary of what was decided on the WWA website and we’d welcome any constructive suggestions on [email protected]

SUPPORT - At this stage of the year, time demands are pressing on the committee and we could use some help to maintain the momentum that we have set out with….many hands etc….
If you have been tempted to help out on the committee and/or with event organisation we’d love to hear from you. Our meetings only take a couple of hours each fortnight.. Volunteers to help out at events would be a big help if committees aren’t your thing.
Hope to hear from you.

PARTY – On Saturday the 6th of November we invite all of you to join us for some OP.Shop madness at our Season Opening Party at Nedlands Yacht Club – put it in your diary now and we’ll fill in the details for you soon but make sure you get there and make it a awesome party.

NEWS – The big recent news is that of Scott McKercher taking out the World Tour Event in Gran Canaria – Well done Scott!!!! He should be back for the Wave Nationals at Lancelin and the 20th Anniversary Classic. Watch him go off on local turf if you get the chance…
Also - A few speed nutters are off to the freezing cold of Wilson’s prom – we’ll keep you informed of the going’s on – if nothing else we should see some funny photos / carnage.

CALENDAR CHANGE - Geraldton Windsurfing Club have decided to focus their efforts on a full-on wave event this year as this is the main interest of the majority of their members. Therefore please note that the marathon and slalom are no longer on offer as part of the Geraldton Blast. WWA will be looking to offer something fun for Perth sailors that weekend - the 20th and 21st of November - Keep watch for announcements.

FORMULA RACING – Tempted to course race? Now’s the time to get kitted up and get into it. We’ve got our State series coming up with the first of the series on Sunday the 17th of October. There are the National Titles in Melbourne in January and the World Titles in Melbourne late next year. If there are budding World Champions out there, sailors who just can't resist that competitive urge, or youngsters who’d love to get into racing - we’d like to do all we can to encourage you into it. If you haven't given those big boards a try - borrow one soon - planing in no knots is quite fun....

HAVE A GO DAYS - A reminder that Windsurfing WA's official calendar of events kicks off this coming weekend with Jez at “Second Wind Sailboards” supporting the first of our free and open invitation events to “Have a Go” at windsurfing.
Lucky Bay in Applecross (River end of Cunningham St) is the location for this first event from 10am to 1pm on Sunday the 3rd of October (Phone 9317 2916 for details).

All are welcome and if you are already a windsurfer and have some kids or friends who might be keen on our sport we’d urge you to get them along to one of these days.

Safety Bay is next on the list with Simon at “Go Windsurfing” delivering a great day of public holiday adventure in a protected area on the beautiful Warnbro Sound. Simon puts on a range of activities on the foreshore at the Northern end of Safety Bay.
The location is the boat ramp near June Rd. Get your friends and family along on Monday the 4th of October. The free “Have a Go” sessions will run between 9am to 1pm and the contact is Simon on 0438 853 785
Simon caters for beginners to more experienced sailors on his days so give him a call and see what’s on….

On Sunday the 10th of October the “Have a Go” bandwagon moves over to the Northern side of the River at Pelican Point opposite UWA at Crawley. Cruising South along Hackett Drive you’ll see Pelican Point Windsports set up with their trailer at the Qantas Boat Landing just after you pass the Royal Perth Yacht Club. The free sessions will be offered from 10am to 1pm in this very popular place for learning. Ian is running the show and is available on 9386 1830.

On behalf of the Committee - To all those who “Have a Go” - Enjoy…

Thanks in advance to Second Wind Sailboards, Go Windsurfing, and Pelican Point Windsurfing for once again, supporting Windsurfing in WA. – Much Appreciated.

Regards,
Daniel Engdahl
