Can someone give me an idea of the era of these masts, were they bomb proof? I've had several now for around 10 years and bought them s/hand. These photos are of the 460 showing some wear from cams, was hoping to delete it from the quiver but as a result of other post on sail spacing's I am wondering if the specs suit the new sail weather to stick with it.

maybe early 2000? i bought a second hand one of those in about 2002-2004

i think they developed fractures in the bottom section just below the ferule. eventually they gracefully fold in half while sailing along. i don't think they'll tolerate the punishment that a cheap modern skinny mast would take

I had a 490, red print not blue, did exactly that.

Me... I would never buy a second hand mast and would swap out my masts every 3 or 4 years (depending on visible wear). I also only use RDMs for their strength. I don't want to be caught out. A brand new mast is only $400 for a low carbon content and about $700 for a good 100% carbon mast. Pretty cheap in the scheme of things and worth the peace of mind.

I've had quite a few of those Fibrespar masts with the blue lettering and they were great. Sold them on saying I'd refund money if they broke and have never heard back from any of the buyers.

is that cam-chafe or fibreglass reinforcing at the boom attachment?
