Just got home from holidays in spectacular Coral Bay WA
Like most of the north west, Coral Bay turns on some breath taking sunsets. It's tradition for dozens, if not hundreds of people to assemble on the town beach, dunes and lookout to witness this marvel of nature.
I had joked to my friends that I was suprised that the kitersurfers had been able to resist performing to such a gallery (they thought I was being harsh). Well bugger me! a few days later we were settling in with our wine glasses about 15 minutes before sunset and some tosser launches a kite right in front of the crowd. Despite that being probably the most crap place to sail anyway, despite that being the only beach where kiting is banned because of the risk of injury to snokellers, plus that bloke would have had to carry his gear 300 mtrs to set up there!!
I'm always up for a stunt. If the guy had rigged up along the beach and done a blast past for the crowd even I would have cheered. But to just blatently go out and just do 'bog laps' punctuated by a few lamed arsed boosts made him (and kite surfers in general) look like a total tool.
Didn't see him again. Hopefully one of the local burly deckhands got him and choked him with his yellow polka dotted boardies!
The whole episode was beautifully summarised by an old German tourist I overheard say to his wife "Can't they do it without an audience" - True Story
