No prize for second
Think the only ones who give a sh1t about this speed are the ones from both levels of sport Kite and Sail, playing in the speed stuff, so Great respect for anybody getting too that level
And yep he missed it by that much wont be long before it goes well by the wayside.

Man the video in that other thread is pretty crazy. You usually see windsurfers at a lot of spots going quick but rarely kites as I guess it's more of a niche in kiting than it is in windsurfing. Seeing a kite going that quick is fairy nuts I reckon.

I usually go that fast for a few milliseconds before my face ploughs into the briney.

No more sailing than falling out of an aeroplane n I'm sure you could do that faster.

I think there is a rule where the water craft can't leave the water for more than a certain amount of time during the 500 meter course. I believe there was a decision a few years back which excluded hydrofoils for exactly that reason.

Having got up to a PB reaching, only to have the landyacht accelate sideways(downwind) to a new significantly higher PB, I would have to vote on the side of YES that is sailing

All things in moderation. 50 knots is too fast for a gentleman. (why are there no smug emoticons)

I tend to agreed GL. There is a good reason the Caption competition never migrated into the general forum. This ageing windsurfing community turns out some marvelously witty captions to suit a particular audience. I won't compromise my standards by resorting to pee-pee and poo-poo jokes just to win votes from our kid brothers in the kitesurfing forum.

As a kiter, I hate to say it, BUT how right you were!
of note the 2000 "bear Sh!tting in the woods lines", and the constant repeated use of the same jokes and slight variations on themes.

That said..... vote for me! (just kidding)

<=== that's me looking very smug, I love being right!

<=== so it's that one.

And why, for all, is it just one run in one direction? Most, if not all speed records, are 2 runs, opposite directions within half an hour or so. How are kites upwind?

pandaman I think you mean speed records for cars and bikes etc.... they would obviously have a wind advantage running with a 40kn tailwind so that is why they have to do 2 runs in opposite directions.

However sailing vessels run faster just downwind of a reach (125deg ) so doing a run in each direction makes no sense as the return journey will be waaay slower, being an upwind run.

If you didn't see the kite you would think he was being towed by a speed boat...reminds me of the speed skiing they used to do on the Lake here.

Of course, but could it be another category?

As much as I'm liking broad reaches flying back upwind is a kind of sweet science, feels a little like you're doing the impossible somehow. The layman would think it impossible, in fact it is a common question people ask "but how do you get back upwind?"
