I bought an Ezzy Kids rig from Surf Sail Australia.

$460 inc. two sails. So far the kids have had a 5 mins on board, soooooo It's been a solid investment.

Neil Pryde does a similar package but its better quality and significantly more costly

Cheers I will check that out, anything to make it easier for the kids is money well spent.

+1 for the Ezzy Kids Rig. I bought mine in Sydney but similar price.

Amazingly light - my 6 year old has no problems uphauling it and after 3 x 15 minute sessions (short attention span!) is now turning upwind/downwind and tacking.

I have a simmer style starter.

So far, they haven't been out alone. I have a wide board which I put a full soft deck grip on and I sit on it, and she holds the boom with me as well and we sail about for all of 10 minutes. We managed a few gybes together like that. Maybe next summer she may enjoy it for 15 minutes at a time!

I got it from www.surfsailaustralia.com.au/
They didn't advertise it online, but they had a 2m roll for $89. I was actually going into the shop to buy the smaller roll so, was pleased when I saw this. I looked lots of places for it, and checked SUP places as well and most grips where in the 150-200 range, if you could even get hold of it at all. Its pretty good quality as well. Quite soft, so ideal for kids and ideal for sitting on. I'll upload a photo at some stage. I just converted a free formula, 85cm as I could get it for free. I know not ideal(and one WS shop here even laughed at my idea when I asked them for grip) but at this stage for a 2 and 4 year old, I don't think it matters as we are just at the floating around stage for 10 minutes.

I did the same thing with an old Bic FW 1.2. I stripped it back and put two layers of glass on the deck and re-enforced the nose and rails then used two large treaded deck pads up to the mast foot and covered the rest of the deck with 3mm high density EVA sheet. It looked pretty good and got the kids through the learner stage. At 88cm wide and 260 long with a slalom shape it actually became my favourite light wind board with a 9m or 9.8.

I got all of the EVA foam from www.pjbowers.com.au/index.html

Easy guys to deal with and reasonable prices. The can also CNC the foam into whatever tread pattern you want.
