Haven't tried myself, but looking at the vid can see that this would be a great tool, not only for kids, but every learner!

No more uphauling.
It looks like a limited range uni joint, is that right?
Why doesn't the whole board tip over when noone is standing on it?

If people are put on the correct equipment in suitable conditions the sport is very easy to learn. It's great that Windsurfing doesn't have restrictions like with Sailing - isn't that why we have a universal joint?

Notice how the guy standing inthe water next to the board keeps a hand on the board as he steps around it - maybe it does fall over....

If it stays upright will it sail off in to the distance when you fall off?

I'd say within reason, yes it would, however the sail will swing around off the wind. Heave to if you like.

I'm guessing that for beginners you wouldn't be out in too strong a wind anyway, so how far could it go?

Yes I imagine also that it would tip over, but again its only for learners so you would have a very small sail, so wouldn't take much effort to keep it upright.

starboard sent us one. it tips over if the sails to big, but put a small rig on and couldnt steer because of limited movement in the sail (needs a rudder(. kids just need even smaller/lighter sails to get the feel.. after that there is no problem!, fair play to starboard but we wont order any.

Hi, All,

I subscribe to US "Windsurfing" magazine and received the latest issue (June 2009) this week. There is a one-page article about this joint on page 74 and they also refer to the website www.ido-innovation.com.

Over the page, there is a splurge on the new 3-piece mast from North. I can hardly wait to get rid of all my 2-piece masts to upgrade to the 3-piece units (NOT!).

Regards,

"A big leap forward for Windsurfing"

Isn't it the most obvious thing ever for a beginner?

This is what will keep a lot of beginners interested:

(ps haircut, this is how I described you to the guy that wants a lesson)
