Chris - that's great that there are longboard comps again, or at least the interest in the fun board. Are these comps a recent thing that have started? Is it somewhere on port phillip bay?
Haircut, the One Designs have been racing at Dobroyd (Iron Cove) and Narrabeen in Sydney and at Parkdale Yacht Club on Port Phillip Bay for years. We get 35-45 boards at national titles and now we (in NSW at least) are concentrating on the club level sailors and getting kids into the 3.5m and 4.5m sails. We're getting up to 13 "big rigs", a few kids and half a dozen beginners during twilights at Dobroyd.
I think Parkdale has 20 boards owned by members and gets 8-12 or so each weekend in the summer; I don't know how many did the winter racing at Sorrento.
If you go the website you'll see Mark Lloyd's email on the "contacts" page; he's the man to talk to if you're in Victoria.
Other longboards are very quiet outside NSW, where there are active fleets that get a dozen or more at Dobroyd and Illawarra, a couple of smaller areas, and a strong group hopefully reforming at Taree after some club reshuffles last season.
