I wish I still had my little speed board on the left from 1988. Ralph Riddell shaped it from rocker curves I developed and a custom paintjob from Darren (Podge) Podboj. I only got to sail it 3 times. I'd just love to have it hanging on a wall. Probably in the rafters of someone's garage !!?

For what it's worth, I have the Atomiq 110 from 2015 and think it's awesome, and I've sailed quite a few newer freerides - blast / fox etc. just about to spend some money on tidying/regripping. sorry to validate your opening post.??

Why did you think a custom wave board would be better than a board that was shaped by one of the best shapers in the world, tested by the best pros in the world, and progressively developed over numerous years?

Wish l'd never let go of my favorite teddy bear. Saw one identical to the one I was given as a baby back in the early 60's. Recently saw it on Antiques Roadshow which fetched
over $8k. Thats alot of windcrank'n gear!!! Now just sweet memories of hugg'n the Wee Teddy never realizing the potential of such high values.

At the end of 2019 I decided to buy a new FSW type of board (secondhand) as my older Exocet from 2008 was a good B&J board but not so good for wave riding on slow waves. I bought a 2014 Goya One 86l. It certainly turned well, but was dog slow. I couldnt live with the compromise of a board which turned so well but was slow and took an age to get back upwind. They updated the design in 2017 to be a bit quicker. I've recently bought a Quatro Tetra 89l, only tried it once and it is so much faster (2 knots on the GPS) than the Goya and goes upwind well. Turns pretty good as well. Its from the same shaper. You cant just assume because a production board its what you want, despite watching their videos and reading the brochures.
Fanatic Stubby & stubby FSW? Where are they now? Same with other brands who jumped on that bandwagon. Wide and thin freerides? 2nd generation they were mostly a bit narrower.

If you want a custom board, you have to be very specific to what you want. If I was going to buy a custom FSW I'd say it needs to be flat between the straps. If it turned out it wasnt, I wouldnt hand over the money.

I've never sold a board and regretted it later.
However, I really wish I'd bought a discounted Exocet x-wave 94l from 2019, and not the Goya. I reckon it would have been more suitable for my than the Quatro as well.

F2 Vega. It was long and heavy, but it was the best waterstarting board out there. If you needed a long tail to rest the boom on, this board was nails.

I've sold an AHD power wave (72 liter, if I remember correctly) and I regret it, it had such a crisp feel to it and it was great for jumping.

Mistral flow was another great board, crappy construction (I had the green version, 96l), but great for bump and jump.

Starboard Apollo, it is the earliest plaining board I've ever had, much easier to get going compare to the more modern Formula boards.

My second board, Tiga 260 slalom.wish l still had it. fast for its time, forgiven in chop & indestructible.

For a while my red futura's, but now I wish I had my BIC Astro Rock. As it was my first short board I planned on and carve gybed.

Ha, saw that iceberg and dodged it.

After a long line of Starboard windsurfing boards...probably in the region of 30+ boards, they are the only ones left, as they've been replaced by foil boards.
we would never sell our pair of Atom 100's.
There is a waiting list for second hand boards in the UK.

I never had a Bic Astro Rock, but friends did. Instructors used to say, "If you can't learn to jibe on an Astro Rock, you can't learn to jibe on anything."
