Hello to all my fellow wind junkies.

I'm relatively new to these forums, so I thought I could get my post count up by kicking off another topic....
The sailing season for most of us (Possible exception the lucky buggers in Gero) is drawing to a close and now we only have the occasional winter storm to look forward to before the next season arrives. So how was it?

Personally I only got out 7-8 times since last November. Between work commitments and the demands of a young family it is getting harder and harder to escape for some wind and wave action.

I didn't sail at all for 7 weeks from late January until last Friday's ballistic session and overall I have found the seabreezes in Perth to be frustratingly unreliable.

I'm looking forward to next summer and hopefully I'll manage some trips away to Gero or at least Lancelin. Didn't sail outside of Perth at all this season which was disappointing.

So what about the rest of you? Anyone else frustrated by their lack of water time and wondering how to up the session count?

My best wavesailing was done on 4 trips away, 2 to gero, 2 to lano.

Mandurah has been pretty lame mostly for waves, but extremely crowded when it's good.

Therefore, have gravitated to speed, and really have enjoyed that, you only need one ingredient (Wind) instead of 2 (Wind and waves), and it aint crowded (yet). Yeh speeds no fun guys stick to wavesailing

So will keep on planning to do trips up north for waves, when I luck it down here great, if not I reckon, there is more bang for your buck in speed around the Perth/Mandurah/Bunbury regions.

Sydney had one of the best Nor Easter seasons for a long long time. It seemed like EVERY weekend had a good minimum 12 to 25 knot wind blowing with plenty of them being mid week also for a few runs after work even. It even blew plenty over Xmas New year for me when I was up at Nelson Bay and I sailed 3 days in a row there in 20 knots plus. I haven't sailed this much since the glory days of windsurfing back in the late 80's.
After a solid southerly yesterday it looks like we are moving into the storm kind of systems but fingers crossed we still have a few more nor easters to say goodbye to Summer with.

I thought last year was bad, but this year beat it by a long shot (shiit/house). I base my opinion on the fact that i generally only sail once a week on the same day. At least last year we had quite a few baslistic days on consistent 25-33 so i could used the small stuff. This year that same stuff hasn't left the van.....But things can only be better next season as the weather/water temp has supposedly changed for the better...

My summer was s**t But then that's fairly normal here.

I'm up in Nth Cairns, Tropics, so our season will kick off soon

We generally get a sail on & off in summer, on the coast, but not this year. Out on the reef, Green Island, nearly always blows but I didn't drag my sorry arse over

Season was ok. Only 1 trip to gnarloo unfortunately. Not enough, maybe about 5-10 decent sails at margies, 10 or more days at lano, and countless days around perth inbetween.

Bring on the winter fronts.

That would be a dream season for me!!

Reading the above posts I have concluded that I need to get away more. Sailing in Perth is a poor relation to Margs, Lancelin, Gnaraloo et al.

Reading these forums has renewed the stoke!

Wow, I sailed at least 4 days a week this summer and I'm complaining that I'm in Wagga. We had a great season south of Adelaide or was it just me.??? Sellicks went off this summer compared to the last 4 years. I had a ball. The vineyard suffered the grape crop was next to nothing cos the flowers blew off and dried out the soil which had no rain all winter but I'm the fittest I've been probably ever and my sailing has improved 100%. Just gotta get in the waves more now. And get a real job.

Hasnt felt like the most consistient season ever thought it would be great the way it started then it just seemed to die in the arse.

Havent really done much travelling this year due to family n work commitments. Renovating a house keeps you off the water i discovered.

Still probably managed 3 days or so a week this season definatly better than last year.

Now looking forward to a wild winter with heaps of Nor westers and 5m swells...oh and finished renos

Mine was prity sucsessfull. Didn't go out often enough though. I'm in straps and harness fully planing now. Getting half way through gybes (loosing it when i flip the sail). Also pulling off some small chop hops and some water starts.

I'm prity happy with my year. Three weerk school break coming up so i'll hopefully improve a lot more then. Goin down to Boggy Lake a bit more and hired a place down at Goolwa for a week.

Aims:
- Get around at least one gybe (happy to sink and not be planing)
- Improve on my chop hops (get bit higher)
- Never have to uphaul again. Always water start.

Awesome season on east coast, 16 days straight wave sailing leading up to Aussie day... biggest sail I use in this time was 5.4 with just under half on 4.7m
Prior to this many good days sailing through December
Throw in 3 trip to Perth, Gero and Lano on west coast including month long stay for November and all up not bad
I thinking east coast (nsw heading southwards) get much better deal than Perth this season.
Not for worry, what goes around comes around as my Aussie friend like for saying much

Picked up one of our local virus's at the end of last winter, which knocked the absolute crap out of me, so I've been just fanging around on the flat stuff rebuilding fitness levels.

Still managed to sail min 4 days a week and surprisingly I think I had a better season on the Mandurah Estuary than I would have done attempting to wave sail (it has been fairly rubbish here).

Got 2 wave sessions recently which made me smile (lots) and Hardie has found an absolute ripper speed run. I'm now able to reasonably consistently be able to gybe (and stay standing upright).

Through all the hard work I can now sail for 1.5hrs solid and be able to walk afterwards and have a bit more confidence about my fitness being able to deal with wave sailing (if it goes pear shaped).

The season was made a whole lot better for getting an F2 SXm, it's been an absolutely awesome board for me, just looked back through my GPS logs and worked out that since I got back on my feet back in Sept last year and got this board I'd racked up 760km on it.

Given the Circumstance of the season I'm well happy.

Oh

A SPECIAL THANKS goes out to Hardie And Robin for keeping an eye out and looking after us whilst I was sailing around, it was much appreciated
