Mmm looking at that maybe I should get a sailmaker to take it out..I wonder if is worth fixing or just buy a new one if possible.I think I broke it derigging.
I find it really hard to get the cambers off that sail.
I let the downhaul off really slowly & a little outhaul until they pop off.I know this isn't ideal but I just don't have the strength to pop them off..The cambers were lying the wrong way so I pushed on it to pop it the opposite side halfway through that process so it would come off easier..Dur.. Won't do that again. I'll make sure it is popped the right way before I start derigging and I'll have to persist and see if I can find anyway to do it with my hands as they say..
I was going to use the sail tomorrow but I assume it could get worse?
The only way I knew was that someone pointed it out -There is a slit in the batten pocket where it broke.It wasn't under tension at the time so it looked ok.
Can you use other manufacturers battens to replace it or do I have to chase Severne? I hope I can get one that will fit as its an old sail but still in good nick.

strong case in point here for a no cam fast sail design ( i like the ncx ) being the correct match to the end user.

reflex only came out 2011 so a 2006 model sail will be an older , more cantankerous and possibly very worn model.

given some of the past posts and board combos you use i suspect cams were never going to be the optimal match to your sailing requirements.. learning to gybe, looking for light sail handling but with a squirt of speed added to the mix? its hard to see how you ended up on semi technical cam sails in the first place.

$... I don't have the money to buy new ..Got 2 sails in good nick for $400...Between the horse , sailboarding,and other interests + bills $ only goes so far..
I was worried about the full on race sail but so far it has been great although I do prefer the 3 cammed Overdrives.
If I'm still sailing when I retire with more $ might splurge and buy a set of NCX's..

Or Ezzy Cheetahs. These should be entering the secondhand market about now. Easy sailing -easy setup (no downhaul tool required).

like for like modern freeride sails used shoul d be cheaper than a cam sail. choose your brand NP , Ezzy make great freeride sails. i just happen to think the ncx is extra special - and even a 4 year old one will totally rock.

the inustry has done tself a small dis service allowing so many progressing windsurfers to go full cam race program rather than taking the more complex decision to place these people on the correct gear.

I still have it - it's for sale..I'm glad you reminded me as it looks like I'll need a 6.6m tomorrow and I'd forgotten I still had the KA. I'll use it tomorrow..
When you say take them off one by one you mean just pop each off by hand? I know that's how your supposed to but this sail is really tight..
Mm never have any hassles with the KA and it's only 3 cams..Wow I can sail tomorrow and if I put it in to get fixed or it take a while to fix it it doesn't matter

I just realised the problem is the bottom of the luff gets snagged on the ring of the extension as you release the donwhaul and that stops it from letting off enough..It has actually broken the fabric there.I have a hell of a time unsnagging it..
Its' the only sail I have that does that and it had been a long time since I used it so I had forgotten the problem! KevinD002 has given me some tips to try and unsnag it..Hopefully once I get the batten fixed that will prevent it happening again as I'll be able to let the downhaul off more with the outhaul still on .

They have been around for a while but they are so good for free riding that they sell like hot cakes!

I've only tried the NCX (2012 I think) in 7.5 and hot damn was I impressed for non cam sail!

okay , for a freerace like that with 2 cambers = possible
NOT for full race with more cambers - i cannot imagine that
butt what do i know

for me 4 cambers is a full-on race
would be almost impossible to remove manually while outhauled
as i mention in my posts, i loosen downhaul about 10 cm
manually remove bottom camber GENTLY
THEN pop the others OFF
works for me every time
AND will try the Ezzy trick next time i de-rig a free-race with 2 cams
