Im still stuck in the 9o's..whats bump & jump? Im also not up to speed with all the modern gear.I have mainly had sailworks sails as they were available locally.I sail on the lake & enjoy stronger winds with occasional jump etc.

Hi sbc,

bump and jump used to be called wave slalom.

Hey, well bump n jump is kinda getting old too now too, basically its for the people who don't like to be locked into straight line stuff like slalom and like to get out on the lake, river even ocean and just blast around trying new gybes, jumps etc kind of like what most sports call freeride, ideal gear for bump n jump is something like a freestylewave board with a wave sail or similar so its still super manauverable but still have a bit of speed.

I had been on Sailworks for many years, loved them, i'm on Severne now and can say that the newer models of the Sailworks Revolutions feel very similar to the Severne Blades, it took me about 15 minutes to get used to the severnes after riding Sailworks for so long, they both are very grunty sails and have big wind ranges, the Blades do feel a fare bit softer when waveriding though.

There where a little heavier than some other brands like Naish, Pryde and Severne but they are very strong and durable, saying that Sailworks have change Materials this year and what i've herd from some friends using the 09's is that they are a fare bit lighter and feel a bit softer but still holding the grunty feel.

The 07, 08 and now 09 Revolutions would be all good sails to get hold of, or the Hucker for true bump n jump but they are in a league of there own when it comes to jumps..

Thats interesting that Sailworks are a bit heavier as weight is a real issue for me.Cant afford the new stuff ( pre 2005 it will have to be) but if i could the Hucker sounds great! Only thing is if I got one of those I couldnt blame my shortcomings on my gear thats the only advantage of having **** gear!

As far as weight goes I've got Sailworks Retros in '04 '08 and '09
The '04 are actually lighter than the latter model ones by 300gm lighter
The '08 being the heaviest and the '09 only fractionaly lighter than '08
eg my 6.5 is 4.6kg which for a nocam 7 batten sail compares well with a
6.7 NP Hellcat 4.81kg
but IMHO the Retro has heaps more range, not mast sensitive, faster and last longer (I've had both)

So you're prolly better off with a good pre '05 anyway,
My 7.5m '04 retro (my most used sail) is still in great cond. you just can't kill em

PS i'm not paid by Sailworks but cheques will be gratefully received

Where did you get out at sboardcrazy?
Sailed down the southern end of Lake Mac in Bonnells Bay.
09 Revo 5.2 and a 85lt Fanatic.
Just kept on the water.

Good choice 4.2m. Was it a Revo?
Cheers

5.2 ! No wonder you could hardly keep on the water! It depends on the wind where I go.In that WNW I went out at Eleebana.I dont know about you but the B wind gods hate me! I spent about half an hour rigging my 3.3m storm sail as the boom I have is so old you have to tie the rope around the mast & lower it to get it tight so i was fiddling with the b.. thing for ages to get it tight enough & then it would be the wrong height.@#$$....! No wonder they invented clamp booms!
I had someone out to take some pics & video.I went out & my first run was fantastic - perfectly powered up but not overpowered got a great jump ..& then the b wind dropped down to about 10kts & I wasted all my energy dogging around.By the time I finally decided to change to a 4m I was buggered ( lack of sleep) so I was sailing like a sack of spuds.Of course the 35kts + came back in so then I was hanging on for grim death.Usually I dont try anything fancy in those conditions but the camera beckoned so I did a jump.Survived that but catapulted big time soon after( first time in 20years) & whiplashed my neck.I already have a neck problem so I decided it was time to quit.
.Of course the wind stayed up & it would have been ideal with the 3.3m ..still rigged up on the shore .Oh to be 20 again & fit! Grr .. what a waste of wind...Still what little video he got was better than previously & he got my stack..even if it was out of focus..Hope you havent fallen asleep with the long winded answer but I needed to vent..PS - I went out today but it died as I hit the water..& of course came back in after Id deriggged..@#$ B Westerlies!

Yep is a Revo . I can hardly wait to use it.Ive " thrown " the old sails up into the garage roof..feels good.Now I need a 5.4 & a light wind board for next summer.Ive got a 90-100lt? 1995 Caveman waveboard .
