Just picked up a 7.7 Hellcat to use with an 130 X-cite ride. First blast on Friday evening was great in not much wind at all and still felt pretty fast at points.

Also felt like I could do with a bit more fin - I was using a 42cm standard fin (came with the board). What should I realistically be going for? 50? 52? Will be sailing on Narabeen lake a bit so keen not to go too mad.

Ive owned a few JP boards and found there fins to be quite good performance wise and well matched to the board size.
I would go 44cm if you are looking to go a bit bigger.
50-52 is formula territory, no way you will need that size a fin

Cheers

Hi, perhaps a fin a bit a bigger would help. I've have a Tabou 140 and use it with the 48cm fin it came with earn using larger sails like a 7.4m and 7.8m. Last week I was at Wind Surf and Snow and saw they had a range of large fins. Perhaps a fin around 44 to 46 cm in size would be beneficial with the 7.7m.

Tomorrow looks good with a north easter. I can't get down to the teams marathon at Lake Illawarra coz of a meeting and business tomorrow but hopefully I can get to Kyeemagh. If you are down there you can give my 48cm fin a go. I bought your 400cm mast ay while ago in Crows Nest.

THanks mobydisc. would be great to give the 48 fin a go, really appreciate it. Have you still got the Delica? Will look out for you.

Yeah still have the Delica.

Its a powerbox fin. I think the X-cite Rides use powerbox fins too.

If I go down there I'll park at the new car park.

I would also play around with the board set up, ie. mast track, boom height to optimise your planing. The centre of effort / balance will vary from sail to sail, so it's a matter of finding the optimum set up for your board and new sail.

My 90L board is very happy to get on plane with a 35cm fin and 7.8m, when I have it set up well.

Hi, sorry not to come and say hi yesterday. Found your van and think I saw you (north sail?) but not together until the end of the day when I was running very late!!! One thing is for sure, I didn't need a bigger fin yesterday, wow, no lack of power there although I was impressed at how forgive the hellcat was before I went for the small kit. Think I need a 6.7 hellcat to fill the gap! Also room for one more piece of gear.

No worries, a big fin wasn't needed but that is what I was running anyway I was using my red Loft 02 7.4m and blue Tabou Rocket board. Also had a red helmet on filming the windsurfing with the GoPro.
