I'm heading up to Hervey Bay in September with some friends from Brissie. I'd love to have a sail in September WITHOUT BOOTIES. Can anyone tell me what the prevailing conditions are for that time of year. I did find KnotBoard's earlier question about locations.

We went to Fraser Is. a couple of years back in Sept and there would have been some awesome B&J at Inskip Point. But them bitie things are apparently prevalent in the area. And do I need a whale fin for Hervey or do you just thump or jump the humpbacks?

MikeyS,
I can't say what it will be like in September, But as an indication of Hervey Bay in winter conditions I can tell you since moving here 4 months ago I've have 4 or 5 good sessions and haven't sailed once in the last month. It's enough to make a bloke consider kite surfing!

I do now however have a 13 foot tinny which I take out nearly every weekend. If the wind is not good for one it is good for the other, but a lot more fishing than sailing gets done if you catch my drift.

We have had some strong westerlies and south westerlies of late but unless Hooray can tell us otherwise, there just doesn't seem to be anywhere to ride those particular winds.

Send the call out to seabreeze member Hooray from Hervey Bay, very helpful local block who seems to have the place sorted out for windsurfing.

For now, winter is for fishing and Summer will be for sailing the afternoon North Easters at Hervey Bay.

Double Island point always seem to be windy on the graphs but you need a four wheel drive to access the place. It has a reputation for noahs but I don't think there has ever been any problems there because there it's always packed with surfers when it's not blowing. Inskip can be almost be accessed by car now but you would have to carry your gear a seriously long way, it think the Noahs would be bigger up there due to it's proximity to the entrance to the Great Sandy Strait.

Good luck, PM me if you strike good conditions when you are here I will join in the fun!

Cheers, Knotley

Thanks for that KnotBoard. Might just hook up my 12ft tinnie in that case for some fishing, although it might be a bit embarrassing next to our friends' 7 metre Haines Signature.
