Now that i am able to cruize along at a fair speed and i find myself a conciderable distance offshore a lot quicker i think it is about time i invested in some safety gear. Just after some advice on helmet and life vests - what should i steer clear of? - what should i have a closer look at? I have a waist harness if that makes any difference?

Juzz, another hooked into windsurfing, I went with the Gath Gedi, light and doesn’t become a lead weight after a long session. They will post to you if you order on line. (they did when I ordered last year)
Use a seat harness, so you need to make sure that if you go vest, it works with a waist and doesn’t ride the both up under your arm pits. Best is ask ad try before you buy.
In regards to the vest I use a DaKine Nexus waist harness, and a Henry Lloyd dinghy PFD vest. Worth going to a Whitworths as they have a good selection. Consider also useful pockets for rope, keys etc.
when you go impact vest shopping take your harness. there are a lot of models to choose from - some go over your harness with a hole for the hook, others go underneath. Dakine also has a 1-piece harness+vest.
don't forget to look at the kite shops - they seem to have a better range.
ahhh...i have a seat harness NOT a waist..wasnt thinking when i typed that....sorry Leech....I got the seat as i have a history of back problems and i was told that if you have any probs at all with your back to get a seat harness.
