Man, haven't seen that many stars on windguru for ages...

Smooth southerly from saturday through to Monday! Might be worth a trip up the coast to check out a new spot.

Hey did I hear correctly that there was a gearswap that weekend?

I was assuming that was the idea as well as a sausage sizzle and a sail. I think the sailing might come first hope the forecast stays exactly like it is

I've never sailed redcliffe before, should be a fun day, are you thinking of going Nebs?

The guy I bought my waveboard from lived up there, never been game to give that 84 litre matchstick a go... but with that sort of wind around I might just be able to get it started

And I need a new boom.

But I'm not sailing if the waves hit 4m (as forecast) though.

they aren't real waves like at the coast etc, its just big swell which is pretty harmless, plus the waves rarely get as big as they forecast as you've probably realised with the wind. 84 litres is heaps of volume for your weight nebs. You won't have any problems but it will feel small for the first little bit of sailing after riding your flow. You soon get used to it, and i reckon forcing yourself to persevere with the smaller stuff is what makes folk progress quicker. hopefully will be fun

Hey Neb,if you've only sailed in flat stuff, Redcliff will sort you out if it's blowing. Have you dealt with shore break before? You want to be good on your waterstarts too. Not trying to put you off, just letting you know that it's no pond!
I'm selling my X6 160 - 210 boom if your interested. It's as new. Check it out on the Neil pryde website.

heya Bludga, when it's south or south easterly winds at redcliffe, do you end up sailing kind of parallel with the waves with them coming sideon, or can u head straight out at them? are you going to head there for the weekend?

Hey Bludga,

I've ventured out into the surf a couple of times before, mostly on a big old 180 litre plastic fantastic back when I had no ability to waterstart. Needless to say I got spanked mightily

I'm a bit better now, planing in the straps, waterstarting, getting some gybes in, so it might be time to give it a go.

"If not now, when?"

How much do you want for your boom? I'm on a really tight budget

hi guys,

redcliffe doesn't get open ocean swells. it gets bay swells. so they are good for jumps but not powerfull or big enough for decent wave riding. you can pick your path through them as you never generally sail direct into them. but across them. the shore break is easy, my 2.5 year old daughter plays in it.

they are steeper than most spots but will be no bigger than shearwater on a good day. maybe half a meter.

it will be harder to gybe than the train, the train is flat and redcliffe is not. but if you want to learn to gybe than rough water is the best. i learnt to nail my gybes by sailing off the southern end of bribie.

bbq is sorted and yes it will be a gear swap as well. wind looks to be cranking as well. should be a good day.

Neb,
The first time I sailed Redcliffe I spent the whole time spinning out.
You just cant stay on the water so you should be used to hopping if you want to enjoy it.

Guys,

Thanks for the replies.

No time like the present to learn

On Sunday I came across some well-shaped ramps and decided to have a go at them. There was a topic a while ago where Katy asked how you were supposed to chop hop and the general consensus was to drive the tail of the board into the bottom of the wave, then tuck your feet up under your bum when airborne... I can't seem to get the board to get more than half the fin out of the water, although that's scary enough!
Can't wait till the weekend

Haircut, I'm no Redcliffe expert but when it's blowing south or S.E. I think the waves are pretty much coming straight from where the wind is blowing from cos they're all wind generated unlike the swell outside which keeps rolling in when the wind dies or goes offshore or whatever.Don't worry, there are big ramps and plenty of them.
Neb, go for it, I'm sure you'll survive. Maybe if you feel a bit intimidated, wear some protection - bouyancy vest and helmet. When it's S or S.E. you are sailing out away from the shore not squarely away from the beach but at a bit of an angle, nevertheless, you can end up a long way from shore real quick so bear that in mind if you think any of your gear is a bit dodgy or whatever. I guess it's not the ocean, but if it's blowing and you are in trouble a mile or so out from suttons, I'd say next stop is Bribie. You don't have to go far out though.
Neb, you probably don't want my boom - it's only a few months old and at $500 new, I'd have to get $300.
Not sure if I'll be there. Have fun guys and gals - hope Huey turns it on for you.

Heya MK7. I still got the board sitting here for you I'm surprised it hasn't sold. I really don't want to drop the price further because I'm happy to keep it as it's still good. It's just not getting any use and was hoping one of the young local kids would have bought it. One of them was thinking about it for last couple of weeks but hasn't contacted me. I also sent a message to a sailor in Balina who was interested (before the wello swapmeet) but he too hasn't replied.

well not very good tide for shearwater, will be back-to-front. Will probably end up being a very southerly blow like usual, and so currumbin will be no good, but further north a narrowneck will be ok (so long as it not over my 3 foot limit ). I was thinking of sleeping in the car somewhere sat night, and sailing brizzy again on sunday? Sound like the go?

any cheap motels around redcliffe? edit edit edit

i can put you up saturday night, i'm in redland bay. i was going to vicki point on sunday arvo late. is only 10mins from my house.

tide at vicki is good from 3pm onwards. i think redcliffe would prob be the best again sunday though as the tide doesn't really affect it that much.

sorry guys, the number has outgrown the amount of beds here.

something i used to do years ago up at elliot heads and lake catharbah was sleep under my rigged sails. beware the sand flies and the sun in the morning that gets superheated by the mono... if anyone needs a tent i got one. dome type..

Title (Gestalt - Wind looks great for your Redcliffe bash)
should be changed to Possibility of wind if your lucky.
The closer we get the less wind is forecast The BOM site has only 10-15 knots for Sat seabreeze graphs looks a touch better.

Hi Dave, I sent you an email a week after the comp saying I couldn't find you on the sunday. I went down between about 9 and 11. There was ver little wind and weren't as many folk there and I assumed you might not have gone for the sunday.

Hi Haircut,
I was there on Sunday as I had a trophy to collect. I guess the board thing wasn't meant to be. Hopefully one of the groms will buy it as some new blood wouldn't go astray.
Cheers Dave
