Looking at a used JP board and its a 'Full wood sandwich'

What's the verdict on this type of construction? This is my first 'modern' shortboard purchase so need some guidance

My wave boards a 2003 JP full wood sandwich and seems indestructable.

Its 10 years old, taken an absolute belting over 100's of hours sailing and its still exacltly the same shape as it was as new. Its been washed onto rocks and blown off roof racks and never had a hole in it. Paints a bit crappy now and the yellow footpads have faded. Not the lightest bit of gear getting around though by todays standard. I havn't updated from it because I'm just not convinced I can get anything thats going to be a whole lot better.
