hi fast eddie.

san sebastian in the basque country may be worth a look as well as mundaka. the area is called pais vasco. the good news is the surf will be pumping in september. so i am guessing the wind will be up as well.

The big surf sport there now would be tow-in surfing well off the coast. The put a barge out and use it to prepare.

Hi,

the south west coast is really nice for surfing but the wind is not really consistant for windsurfing... But it can happen, some epic wave sessions... Otherwise the windsurf coastline starts with Ile de Ré and going further north (up to vendée, bretagne,...)...

L'ile de Ré is quite nice, Antoine Albeau F192 is the most famous local... :)

Have fun in france,

A bit further north on the west coast provided some good conditions when I was driving around the place.

On the south side of Bretange: Quiberon and La Baule had some OK conditions. La Torche, which is on the tip of bretange, rocks. If there is no wind at La Torche you'll find plenty of surf waves.

Quiberon: http://www.topspots.org/spots/spot.php?id=70
La Torche: www.windlords.com/france/audierne.htm (scroll down)

If you see big winds comming while you're there - consider La Torche!

Last summer there was a French intern working for Bic/Fiberspar in our area. He was from Nantes as I remember and attended the Uni there. I asked him about Normandy since that's the only part of France I have not visited. He told me to forget it because it rains too much there.

I'll be there in September too, but no-one's dragging me!

Looking forward to a summer ski in Austria and then returning in Oct for the Nor 'easter season.

Anyone know the Mediterranean winds in September? (Italy-France-Spain)

September is the begining of the strong wind "Tramontane" and "Mistral" in south France on the mediteraneean sea from Perpignan to Hyeres you'll get lots of wind..wavesailing ais better from Marseilles to Hyeres.
enjoy

South west France is crap for wind but really good for surf
forget about windsurfing there...it is only on lakes or big shore break condition on the ocean..wind start further north (north of Bordeaux) so near Ile de Re and Ile d'Oleron..Brittany is good for wind and wave but rainy and a good 700km from the south west.
good luck

Often I've wondered what Biaritz and St. Sabastian might be like. I spent a few days in Bordeaux five years ago. I saw a video once of the huge wave surfing they were doing out in the Atlantic there. Let us know how things go for you.

In the Meditaranean there is a little spot called Carro that can get good wave conditions and then there is Brutal Beach. I have not sailed BB but it is talked about.

Carro is a reef wave. I sailed it in smallish conditions but it is supposed to sport a bigger wave in the right conditions.

Do you plan on renting equipment? I was wondering what kind of rental stuff is available on L'ile de Ré. The TGV from Paris goes to Nantes as I remember, too. Actually, though, if I ever sail in Europe, I prabably won't do it in France. Besides the way the dollar has been loosing value these days, there's a good chance you will be paying through the nose in the tourist season this summer.
