Nice work. 7 months seems like a long time. How long did it take others?

Can you forward loop? Here's the thing about them, they aren't a hard trick per say but they are very difficult to learn, particularly of you've been windsurfing a while and are older.

They are basically a catapult, all of your muscle memory is trained to stop this as stopping a catapult is a fundamental, early learned skill. This sort of muscle memory takes a long time to reprogram.

If you are younger and new to windsurfing they can be quick to learn as you don't have that super ingrained muscle memory....and it's easier to retrain it when you're young.

Learning curve is a bit relative. There's a difference between landing one once in a while and landing them consistently, many times per session, regardless of water state and wind conditions.

There's also a difference in style, and depending on how one approaches it, the learning curve will vary. Cheese, Endo, Spin, Speed, or Forward, we have a nice variety.

I know of a kid that goes forward on a wave but cannot throw it over chop because of the sail/board angle and body position.

I was close to landing them on month 1 at times but freaked out about landing with the board. However, I had little sail control at the time and could only pop over a certain type of wave.

I do think the main thought is elsewhere though. More something like achieving a goal in our life, no matter how impossible it may seem to us :)

I think that is the best forward loop video I've seen Manuel. Well done. I love your vented frustration

Mixed emotions , happy for you , and , older me thinking , do I really want to throw myself forward in a controlled catapult at my age ?
Im still hurting in my full planing in rough water first time since before X Mas session . Loved that two and a half hours thinking I'm not even puffing
. Even after a one hour Chinese massage I'm looking for simphany from my wife . Still stiff Three fkn days later .
Not from the massage
Got to get out more.

Agree that the forward loop is an unnatural windsurf action against the learning "catapult ".
I was lucky that I learnt in Maui and in my mid/late 20s and asked a lot of great loopers and got very helpful pointers.
The under rotation phase then the over rotation bending booms, black eye and broken nose being hooked in harness (extra style points) then wave broke as launched of wave and feet came out but when landed my knee broke my nose.
But the feeling of going for it and when you had it dialled looking around during rotation was such an awesome rush.
In cross shore with peaky ramps is so much easier than onshore mushy waves.
Yes different looping techniques for different conditions but not so good in chop but when half mast and powered up the end over is awesome.

Conditions are important for me. I'm after flat water for 20-40m to get myself planing and sorted out, then a small little wave/chop at the end, just enough to get the fin out of the water. Unfortunately due to weather patterns, I can only them at certain times of the year. Most of the time, I'm leading up to that ramp and the water is choppy as ****. This puts equipment off tune and not setup into the maneuver. It's been two years since I tried doing them now. My back and right knee (port tack jumping knee) has been really playing up this season. I feel the clock is ticking . I suppose I should stop being a girlie little man ?

Focus on heading downwind and extending front arm towards the wind. Maybe hold onto sheeting in until you get the pop dialed in...
