Anyone have one ? What are they like, what conditions do you sail it in and how many litres over your weight is yours?
Looking around for another board and may be able to demo one of these.

Why the red thumbs?

I have a 2008 Scross 115. Very easy board to sail and can handle rough water quite well. Exceptionally soft riding and very easy to gybe and quick enough (though not blisteringly quick).

Thanks.. Me too re red thumbs.. red thumbs are useless unless you say why.. I've read the 84 ltre review but its the freestyle wave and much smaller. Thanks for the feedback ikw777. How many litres above your weight is it and what wind speed do you use it in? If I get one it will be 40 above my weight for 10-18kts.

Sincerely Sue (and I didn't red thumb you, I think it's a very coward way to answer to a post) rather than asking advice on the forum, where actually everyone will promote their board, (cause we all know OUR board is the bestest !!) you should try and try and then try again, ask your locals sailors, go for all the demos you can !!

Go out in those conditions you mention and give it go....

Cheers

Sean

It's about 35-40 over my weight and is my biggest board. Good from about 11 knots up. Use it with 7.5 and 6.5 Ezzy Cheetahs. Great for the light winds here in SEQ.

I didn't red thumb either, but probably due to the fact that after several threads posted and loads of good experienced advice about "which board", the thread's author still hasn't made a decision? Just guessing...

If that's the case then that's quite mean spirited on the part of the redthumbers, especially as this thread is asking for feedback about one particular board. Imagine a windsurf forum where it was sneered upon to ask for dice about boards? The mind boggles.

I suppose if I haven't got a board by summer there will be some local ones I can try at Coal. Bit hard to line up a try during winter especially as I usually can't sail weekends when there are more non slalom boards around.

Sue,

You're free to try my Rocket 105, but you'll have to wait until the weather warms up and make your way to Botany Bay. (Not sure if you are the Sue that sails there already?)

Regards,
Harrow.

About time! (kidding)

Just do what most of us do - buy the first board that we can afford within the approximate literage (?), sail it a few times then realise what a brick it is, then try to offload it to the next unsuspecting newby!

Seriously though - demo-demo-demo! Regardless of who you ask about what board, everyone's experience will be different depending on their skill-level, weight, fitness, conditions, fin, rig etc...so if you're serious about buying a certain type of board, try to get hold of one & go for a spin.

Been there done that which is why I want to get it right this time especially as it could be the most $ I've put out on a board..

i'm not a red thumber either.

you could always just look at the board and get a rough understanding of how it will work.

I think sue you need to be careful that you don't keep asking the same questions or rephrasing the same question until you get the answers your looking for.
the only way to really know how a board performs is to sail it as sean has said.

anyways, it's just an opinion but I think that the scross would be a good substitute for your 125lt board. it's hard to shop for boards just based on max width and volume which is what most intermediates do. there are better ways, like looking at the volume distribution, the one foot off dimension, the length, the rail shape, the rocker, the nose rocker, the bottom shape, the thickness of the board, the materials used to build it. all of those things have a greater effect on early planing and how the board reacts to chop.

just as an exercise compare visually the scross versus the rrd freestyle wave of the similar volume and width. do they look the same?

I remember when I was after my small board, I just bought 3 second hand, then kept the one I liked and sold the other two. As long as you pay the right price for them, you should be able to get your money back.
