With the latest drop in the Oz dollar. Is that going to affect the price of equipment this summer ? or Has it already been paid for pre delivery and then no price rise ?
Prices really did not go down that much when the Aussie dollar was up so they shouldn't go down that much either. Not sure but I guess importers have to wear these exchange rate fluctuations.
The plus side is a reducing Aussie dollar value would make Australian manufacturing more likely to happen.
In the end currency movements are a zero sum gain.
> In the end currency movements are a zero sum gain.
(Haven't heard this sayin' since uni days!)
Currency movement, not unlike bowel movements, may be 0-sum, but man's greed ain't.
It's probably gonna be like petrol: when it's going up, they pass on to us the hike right away. When it's going down, price stays up for a while as they say "reserves were paid on the old rates".
I'll wait for my current freeride/freestyle gear (3-4yo) to crap out some more before splurging.
The importers are all letting the retailers know this week that any stock arriving from now on will be 10 to 15% dearer due to the drop in $value.
So if you are after gear, guy now from the stock already instore and you will be saving money as opposed to buying anything later that's coming from the october/november deliveries.
for example we ordered sails from the factory and if the invoice was ready 2 weeks ago we would have paid at a value of 90 cents to the US $, now it is 71 cents. That is a massive price difference when buying in stock.
On a positive note, most shops have plenty of stock available from last year for bargain hunters.
