Recently there was some discussion (in the 1st downhaul thread I think) about how new sails are relatively single setting for downhaul with power and range adjusted by outhaul.

For some reason I was watching vids from ezzy where he explains this and some other good ideas

That was well worth watching. I've been sailing Ezzy for years, and after seeing that I reckon I over down haul. Note that Dave used his bare hands to apply the down haul. This means he puts much less tension on then we do when we use screw drivers or other aids to wrap the rope around. I'm going to experiment this weekend with my 2007 SEs...

It's not a problem if you use the "swoosh" to set your down haul. I use a small handle to down haul but as long as the looseness (let the sail rest on the ground when checking as it's easier to see) doesn't go past the front of the swoosh your right. Never had a problem.

Ejmack,

I do the same more or less, but I suspect that I over down haul it. I'm going to a have a real close look at the swoosh with the sail lying down, rather than standing it up like I have been. I'm also going to use the Ezzy 3-5 finger approach for setting outhaul on the relaxed sail depending on wind strength.

I like my Ezzy's and don't have problems with them. I'm just curious to see if I can make them perform even better if I do exactly what the main man recommends.

Cheers, Jens
