I'm wanting to replace the stock footstraps that came with my board for something a little easier to get in and out of. My foot width being a problem. Has anyone tried these;

Used these for years. I don't like using anything else now. As far as easier in/out, I would say there is no difference though between these and any other straps. Foot width problem is more due to the spacing between the screw holes. If your feet are really wide, you might be best to get a few extra foot strap screws inserted by a good board repairer. If they do a good job and its under the pads it shouldn't effect the cosmetics. I guess you are trying to compensate with having the straps looser. You can probably get normal straps to go looser than contours. But I do find contours really are very comfy if you do go for them.

Cheers! Good to hear...both good and bad.

NR - They look less padded and therefore not as thick as my current straps (stock Starboard/Drake). My thought was that less thickness would allow for more width when positioned where I like my straps. Havn't seen them in stores so can't be sure however.

Awesome straps. No sandpaper effect from my POV.

I reckon they are about the same thickness on the inside as normal straps. They are wider, as in strap covering across your foot than normal straps, and don't have the velcro on the top. So probably from photo appearence they look less padded on the inside. Its ashame you can't try some first, as they are awesome straps, but whether they fix your wide problem is a different question.

they are great straps for the first 6 months or so of use. After that I found they break have a tendency to break near the base resulting in a sharp edge that your foot rubs against.

Also, after about 12 months the top of the straps tends to wear thin and also cause increased rubbing.

After years of using these I ended up going back to the stock standard straps that came with my boards. Both JP and Starboard straps are pretty good these days.

PS, also tried the Neil Pryde Pro straps for a while. They are incredibly conformable but will only last you about 12 months. After that they tend to get a bit stiff around the base causing blisters on your foot.

G'day Evan,
I use the Dakine straps and reckon they are the most comfy straps I've ever used. (that's why I keep them on the board I use 90% of the time) They fit nicely to the shape of your feet and you can feel the load is spread more evenly over the top of your foot. SHQ sell them, but if you want to try them first, you can borrow mine for a go. Are you sailing tomorrow?

I use in all my 4 boards dakine footstraps contour system I use them whith with neilpryde 3000 footwear Before 7 years i broke my foot using this straps but i thought that it was bad luck Unforunately i confirm that in a situation when you drop on the inside on the board your foot there is no way to get out of the strap resulting holding your foot in the strap and pressing it so much that it could break . I tested them in dry land pushing my leg in the front and my foot could not make it out of the strap On the water when i tried once back side aerial the same thing hapened When i use contour whithout footwear is ok but with footwear is NOT what dakine says Unrestricted entry exit So is there any foot wear that could help your foot get out of the strap or is it just the strap fault ........

agree with Troppo (Ihave his old board) - they are crap. They somehow allow too much foot movement for me no matter how I set them.
Give me the old standard type any day.

EJ you wanna swap? I'm going to buy new ones for this board anyway, that is how bad they are.

I'm getting use to them (Starboard straps). Just have to pull my back foot half way out before going downwind into a gybe otherwise they normally get stuck. But they are also stretching I guess as they feel looser the more I use them. It's not normally an issue now. Glad I couldn't be bothered getting new one's.

Very comfy, but a bit too much stretch/movement...I'm gonna put them on a new large project board I've been gifted once done.
