I've been talking to few people but I thought I'd get some more feedback. Weather permitting I will be going 'bushwalking / car camping 'at Crowdy head next weekend.I thought I'd take the board and try & get a sail while I was there. Not keen on surf especially in offshore breezes.
Any suggestions? Someone suggested the river...? I suppose I could call in at Wallis Lakes on the way too..If it blows it will prob be either W's ( NW - SW) or S / SE..
Any local info appreciated. Also would the river be cold like a lake or warmed by ocean ( if its close to the coast).

Yay! Someone answered..What's Old Bar like? I assume it's river sailing? What winds does it work in?

You probably have three options. The closest is the river around Harrington, its probably a similar drive of at least half an hour to either Old Bar or Queens Lake.

That would be Rob C, ex Narrabeen local wave sailor and fellow Maui visitor with us blokes. When I was there a few years ago it was way to shallow and kites were the only ones able to sail. Rob reckons now its unreal and we will be making the trek up this summer. Plus Wallis lake is great fun in a nor-easter with long runs and consistent wind from the sailing club and Tiona park.

W/SW is great for Pacific Palms at the sailing club on the lake, long runs, but will def need a weed fin! PP is about 1hr or so south of Crowdy Head, along the Lakes Way past Forster

Not sure about Mud Bishops (at Old Bar) in a W/SW, maybe call Mark Jordan at Jordan's Boating Centre Port Macquarie, he has sailed there recently. Mark's profile name on here is "Aussie Boats". He is a top bloke and would be happy to let you know about the best flat water spots in a W/SW

Manning River at Harrington from Pretoria Parade (near Harrigans Irish Pub) or from Manning Point if you are coming from Taree. There is a wide reach of river/flat water suitable in any wind. Otherwise, Crowdy Head northside on the SLSC side, beach access to Crowdy Bay beach for about 5km, if you prefer the surf. More gnarly challenging surf on the southside (under the lighthouse) access via the dirt road adjacent to the carpark for the boatramp.
Mudbishops at Old Bar is very shallow and not much maneouvrability, also insecure carparking.

I pm'd Gidget earlier. My trip was cancelled due to the wet..Luckily so as Gidget said the river mouth is usually 300m & it was 1 1/2 kms wide brown , fast flowing with hay bales and fridges going past! Wouldn't it be fun trying to waterstart & a fridge whacks you in the head!
