Im thinking of converting a NP H2 2 cam 8.7 into a rotational .
Has anyone done this ?
Why ? , because it is a spare and I would like to use it on light days for very basic freestyle moves , ( like sailing backwinded ) , which is a real bitch with a cammed sail.
Its a very narrow luff sleeve and it has protruding battens . I could make batten extensions that would be like rotational battens sitting on the side of the mast.
My main question is ... would the curve shape of the sail work or would it be flogged out and all wrong ?
Any other issues ?

I took the cams out of a Tushingham Lightning, which is twin cam with a narrow luff sleeve, because the batten tips were broken and it was only for my son. Seemed to work fine as a RAF

Lol...yep. I'm afraid it's an old man's sport these days. I hope my 16yo keeps at it though, it will be cool again one day for not being "mainstream"!

I thought the luft pocket on a rotational sail had to be really tight for it to work properly. Is the pocket on the H2 too wide?

I hate cammed sails. SO yes. A Ezzy Infinity , worked best with them removed. Their could be extra stress on the mast sleeve .

If its a extra , WTF anyway

Ezzy Lions can be rigged Camless. Narrow luff tube.Havnt tried it. But i guess itd be similar to Cheetah.
As you say Imax1 H2 may need a little batten extension. If its just for mucking around cant hurt to give it a spin. Guess its like the incorrect mast scenario. Itll work but wont be 100% of design ability.

MauiSails MS-2 was an MS-1 for a while and then just MS
so, yeah, it worked fine until I killed the sail entirely -

Ezzy Infinity was the predecessor to the Lion. Ref the cams out

I have an 8.5 Infinity which is a pain to rig and it would be really good to remove the cams.

Now if the cams were removed how would the battens work around mast?
Should the batten pockets be sealed?

Thats the same problem i have with the NP sail . The batten pockets dont have an end , the batten tip slides into a small plastic piece that is connected to the end of the batten pocket with strings , ( the most complicated and fragile system ever invented ) . So ill extend the battens 2 cm or so , ( at the back ) and let the front protrude deeper into the luff pocket and make a longer , wider batten tip out of plastic and either use the string method or directly bolt it to the holes in the end of the batten pocket to make a solid batten pocket end to rotate around the mast.

The Infinity 7.5 I had was about 10years ago, I dont remember. I do remember the pain. A newer LION 8.5 was easier to rig. My reflection is the Cheetah suits me better in those sizes.

Contacted the manufacturer and got a quick response. It seems that 2004 onwards the Infinity has two batten pockets - so happily removed the cams on mine and slid the battens into the cam--less sleeves.

Happy to have learned this :-)
I was avoiding this sail due to the lengthy rigging process.
And how good is the product support? :-)

I have an old 7.2 Infinity. I tried it camless and it didn't work. I think it was too deep.
So I set it up with one cam and it works fine. The rotation is super soft.

Finally got to try the Infinity 8.5 without cams today.
15 to 18 knots winds. Works great on the ocean. More forgiving and easy to turn in gybes,
So much easier to rig up too.
