Anybody know anything about this topic?

-Do you know if those surfboard bike racks ($70 a set) are strong enough to carry a windsurf board on one side of a bike and sail etc on the other?
-Bike trailers? Any advice? Where to buy them/have them made in QLD?

I'm into the 4th week of my Big Windsurfing Holiday in Australia and I haven't sailed once yet!! Can't get the gear to the water!! Getting desperate!! Doggone it!! Should've gone somewhere else!!

it was a bit dodgy,.....but got me there..... using the boom as a trailor arm ...stroke of genius.....having the fin that close to back wheel...idiot

(1) old style golf buggy. (OLD style) without the bag, laid over a little, makes a V with the wheels at the apex. Lay board on top and strap in on with all the gear, mast is the 'draw bar'. Tends to fall over sideways easy as it is only 18" wide.

(2) 2 (front) BMX wheels attached to original forks. Bolt forks to end of a bit of about 1inch sq steel tube about 2ft long. Then weld or u-bolt the rest of your 1inch sq steel to it... say 2m long. Giant T shape basically. Bolt / tie / u bolt whatever that LOOSELY to the seat stem or underside of the seat. easy peasy, $20 cos old BMX's grow on trees.

When I was a 14 year old windsurfing grom I used to have a trolley coming off the pushie, only problem was that it was in the days when masts were one piece!! I would have the mast held in at the end of my trolley and sticking up and over my head. All this was topped off with my Windrush Storm 8 and one 5.7m sail. A 15km ride with the wind to Pinaroo Point was easy, coming home into the seabreeze after a few hours sailing was the killer.

yea the bike was a piece of crap! one of them old school dinky bar ones... it was ok because i used the bar to attach the trolley on to. it was easier then attaching it to the seat post of a conventional bike.

Did it! Done it! Lived it! Made it happen! Thanks for the inspiration...you guys are legends...

OK OK so I biked the gear to the beach between Broadbeach and Surfers...rigged up in the park...carried the gear down to the water, facing a 4 to 5 kts onshore breeze and smallish waves.

And guess what? 2 months off the water, and I can't windsurf! I fell off, like 20 times!! I could barely uphaul!! What a retard!! I was dropping the sail in a 6 knot gust! I normally consider myself a fairly competent sailor, going out 3-4 times a week and having no fear of strong winds... tell me Doctor, is there hope? Will I ever set foot in the straps again???

love the basket on the bike! All time!

Are you just on holidays here on the goldy or living here?

there is a resurgance of ocean/wave sailors here, we normally sail anywhere from Narrowneck to North Kirra, dependant on conditions.

Anyone here got some ideas for me??? Im going to be living 400m from Mermaid Beach, carrying your whole kit is a bit tough, thinking of like a sea kayak style trolley, which is just 2 wheels on a brace that you tie to the end, http://www.2xs.co.uk/RTM_Trolley.asp?CID=0 then just lift the other and walk, or wether I pack my kit in a bag and carry it, mmmmmm, big decisions, what would uncle Chop Chop do?

I'm not surprised, I wouldn't want to uphaul that rig in 5kn onshore, be patient wait for 15 - 20kn, you wont have a problem.

MD74, that trolley looks ok but kind of expensive. I got a great folding golf caddy kind of thing from a garage sale last Sat, for 10 bucks! The wheels are about 65cm apart, same width as my board! (Auto Warehouse has big push trolleys for about $26, if you prefer.) I lay the mast on first and tighten the straps which would normally hold the golf bag. Then the board goes on top, tail first, fastened by occy straps. The boom goes onto the board, and is lashed to the footstraps to make the whole thing solid. The sail goes on top, but obviously shouldn't be lashed tightly, to avoid damage. The boom clamp fits around the seat post! Brilliant! A bit of padding can be used here to protect the clamp, or else just suspend the boom from the seat by a bit of rope. One key point I found is to make sure the load is well balanced over the trailer wheels, so there is no great upward or downward pressure on the boom. The westuit goes in the basket, and off I go...very, very slooowly!!

BTW I went out this afternoon; much better!!! At Kurrawa, around 2-3pm. My first time in waves; they were small ones but I was pretty freaked out all the same. I couldn't quite plane on my Ezzy 7.0m No-Cam Freeride sail, (damn, why'd I sell my 7.8m RS-6?) but there was still a decent bit of wind. I blame my rusty skills and balance more than the lack of power. But it's all coming back to me now!! Man, that was fuuuuuuun! In the end I managed 2 tacks without falling off, so I think I'm well on the way to a full recovery.

I'm located in the Broadbeach Waters area, and considering my humble transport, I expect to do all my sailing at Kurrawa beach, launching about 100m to the south of the surf club. Anyone care to join me??
