Several years ago a friend found a bizarre and beautiful board at the garbage dump. There is no writing or insignia of any kind on it. He's held on to it for years, thinking that one day somebody could tell him about the board, but that's never happened. Any of you that sailed in (or knew the gear of the 1980's) please take a look at the top of www.peconicpuffin.com/ thank you. Even better would be if you recalled how it compared in its day.
Thanks!

That board bears a remarkable resemblance to the board i learnt to windsurf on in the early 80's. My dad bought one from Sailing Scene in Sydney with a new Hobie Cat. From memory the board had 2 round plugs that attached teh mast to the board and it was not uncommon for this to come out. I dont know the brand as our was unbranded as well. We bought ours witha 6.8 Gaastra powerhead sail. As to how it compared, compared to what. Most boarsd in this time were of similar type. This was a similar desugn to the one design windsurfer, with a larger volume. It would be a great board to do the old style freestyle tricks on though. Hope this helps.

I'm with Sick EM.

Looks like a Crit circa 1984 vintage.

- They made some good slalom boards in their time.

Crit? Well, that's a start. I've googled Crit and not found any photos, but I'm hoping someone can make an absolute identification. Anyone else have other ideas?

Thanks everyone who took a look!

The board was recently identified as a Blue Marlin. I'm looking for more information on Blue Marlins, but we have a model now. Thanks again!

ThatS a most impresive find.
The paint job is spectacular.
What is the bottom like ?
Is it rounded?

Might be delfous or something with that similar name.

Its got that universal simliar to the early windrush gear?

It does look french

um um um .I really wanted to win the prize to.

puffness,

each country had it's own name for it, in australia they were called the sunsurfer by the importer,

in u.s.a. they would have been called something strong and patriotic,
in new zealand they would have been called something to do with sheep,
and in ireland they would have been called something silly.

in the country of origin they would have been called the hwang king soongay.

GL,

What is wrong with calling it "Ceannaire Glas". It makes more sense then Sunsurfer. After all it is not like you can surf on the sun, everyone knows it would melt the foam core.

I'm with Greenleader. I mentioned to Puffin earlier that I thoought it was a generic brand that went under different names. I still can't find the right old mag, but while I respect the guys on the other site who said it was a Blue Marlin I think Greenleader's correct.

Ahh, boards of the early '80s. Remember the Sodim with the fins that stuck horizontally out of the sides of the 6" high square rails?

I will do some praise singing on my blog, and will get the owner of the Sunsurfer/Blue Marlin/miscellaneous beast to produce it for a few more photos.

Thanks again, everyone.

...as for performance it was super quick, but tough with out footstraps. The botton was quite rounded at the front which decreased towards the back.

Much faster than the one designs or other things out around that time.

I also agree that the damn uni joint would come out of those 2 plugs. I lost a 4.2m^2 from a sea skip cause my cousin sat on the sail when the board was up side down.

I was gutted.

A good mate of mine had a Crit back when we first started sailing (20 odd years ago), in fact had my first ever sail on it. The graphics were different but the outline looked the same and it had those same plugs.

What amazes me now is that even though the boards where 13feet long I could still manage to step off the back of the board when it was cranking along in high winds

anyway puffness,

they produced two boards in the early eighties, one was a modified flog mould of a mistral competition and the other was a modified flog mould of a windglider sport which was the little brother to the olympic model. they (the asian copiers) filled in deck concaves to avoid copying too closely and that is the board you have. (sucked in) enjoy this forgettable piece of history and please don't ever locate a board called the "stip holiday" from holland.

oh yeah and in passing comment, the crits were a class act let down by their name (wtf is a crit ) the 600 was a cruiser but a little unstable, the 630 low vol but still 12 glorious feet i luvved, and the fame claimer the D-2 still wetting my pants over that one. anyone still got one?

Thank you GreenLeader for the quality and detail of your information! I've transferred much of it over to my site for the benefit of readers there.

Thanks again!

P.S. how long have you been windsurfing?

hi mate, i learned to sail on a board identical to that, its called a "HAWAIIAN" they made them like they make surf ski's gel coat and chop matt in a mold then fill it with that liquid foam. bought mine in 85 or 86 for $450 from a guy in newcasle who imported them. i cut it in half about 3 years ago, heavy as hell, broke the centre board case in the first week, this board was slow and the deck was very slippery, the original windsurfers where about 200% better.
