Hi,

As my girlfriend has got the opportunity to participate in a 2 month practical course in Western Australia I am going to meet her to have some nice vacation days then.

I am a passionate windsurfer for over 20 years now and I would like to visit some of the great surf locations along the western coast afterwards. A friend of mine has been to Gnaraloo at least 3 times and so would I like to do (surely after having some kind of "warm-up" at places like Lancelin or Geraldton if there's wind at all in September).

Now to my question/request: can anybody tell me the E-Mail address or fax/phone number of a campsite called "3-Mile Camp"? My friend recommended me to make a kind of reservation as Sept/Oct is vacation time in West-Oz. I harldy can believe that "normal" tourists like to stay in a camp that far off and without much comfort, but I don't know and I don't want to travel that far to be surprised by a crowded camp ground.

I would very much appreciate your tipps and any further comments. If you should be interested in windsurfing locations worldwide you might have a quick look at my personal website trippicker.surfingdave.de.

Thanks in advance for your posts,
Michael

Thanks a lot, moonboy1!

I'll stay from 10 Sept til 06 Oct, do you think there will be a realistic chance to have some good sailing conditions (e.g. also around Geraldton)? As far as I know the more North I go the better the chance for wind, am I correct?

I can imagine that you are not really keen on Non-Ausstralian windsurfers visiting your home spots, do you? On the other hand I am a kind of windsurfing dinosaur that enjoys traveling to scenic spots around the world and I have experienced a lot of hospitality in most of the times. Your quick response is another proof for that.

The first 14 days of my stay will be for sightseeing and for my girlfriend. So I am going to spare you and the other guys during that time.

Do you have any other recommendations for camp sites along the track Perth - Gnaraloo? Where could I have a good starting session?

Thanks again,
Michael

october is very consistant wind up there, you'll be sailing dont worry about that
the size of the waves may deter you sometimes, it a very heavy wave.
Take spare fins and masts.
If your an intermediate stop in at gero, you should get some sailing there.

On the subject of camping in WA, is there a campsite in Lancelin which is near the windsurfing beach. Couple of mates and I are planning a trip over in January and are not too fussed about where we stay. Will it be too hot to camp?

Cheers

In October/november, would you expect to see a bunch of dudes out at the main breaks at gnarloo. Or could you be sailing it alone.

Laff77 theres a camp site within walking distance to the beach at Lano you can even carry you gear fully rigged back to your tent

Nathan more likely 30 -40 guys at gnarloo

I'm going way north end of Sept i know of some sick spots Ive wanted to sail for a while it wont be as good as gnarloo but I'll get some awesome waves all to myself

So I am going to show up at Gnaraloo by end of September. Anyone else there during that time?

What would you recommend to take except:
- spare fins and masts
- something for disinfection
- booties

-> is a shorty enough (hopefully, or does anybody use full wetsuits?)
-> a stove? (gasoline)
I am going to leave my 3.7 at home, that's o.k., isn't it?

Thanks in advance,
Michael
