I'm heading to hong kong at the end of March and was wondering if anyone has had any experience buying windsurfing gear there? years ago, when i was a kid, i imported some sails from hong kong at a fraction of the cost of NP equivalents in OZ...

Times have changed, but can you still get quality gear over there and bring it back tax free?

I heard someone talking about gear they bought over there a while ago direct from the factory really cheap so im sure you still can however if customs "find" it you will most definately be paying tax.

Not sure about this, but I think you are safe if it has been used... Chuck a few handfuls of grass in the sail bag and call it 2nd hand

leave out the grass, Steve Irwin will be around your place in a flash with a crocodile or snake to have your nuts for importing vegetation.

Depends what sort of grass you are going to put in your sailbag as well

hhmmm.... about 4kg's should be enough to convince customs.

I don't know if this applies to sails as well. Can anyone confirm?
I would think that any local shop would probably be less enthusiastic to process a warranty calim is you did not buy from them anyway, but if this applies I hope you're imported gear does not need replacing.
