I've got a little project waiting for me when I get "home" next week...my North mast base (strictly used for backup since I bought a Chinook) has got a piece of tendon stuck inside; of course it didn't break conveniently in the middle, opting instead to break around the screws so that the remaining piece is very hard to get at.

Any suggestions? I thought of putting it inthe freezer so the rubber would contract...

get a 1/8" drill

drill a series of holes in a straight line across the centre of the tendon from on edge to another. just stop when yo hit metal

a screw driver then to break the final webs the two halves should be relatively easy to remove

Nice one Elmo... I forgot to mention I have only kitchen implements at my disposal. Maybe I could pour veggie oil in and poke it with a skewer?

wine bottle cork screw

screw it in and rather than using it to pull the tendon out (if it doesn't work that way then keep on screwing it in and it may end up jacking the tendon out.

The veggi oil may help

Drill small hole in tendon and fit a screw in hole. Use pliers or multigrips on screw to remove tendon as in corkscrew style.

With the kitchen drill and the kitchen pliers I guess

Is North a weird system? cos on every one I've seen there is a cup which the tendon sits in, with a crossbolt to hold it in. At the base of the cup there is another bolt (in line with the tendon).... so once the cross bolt is removed all you have to do is knock in the bolt in the base and it will push the broken tendon out. Streamlined / Chinook etc.
