I have 8m 3cam sail ( HSM GPS) . I'm trying to find the planing bottom end for this sail. If course it depends on lot factors so here's my quiver . Fanatic falcon 69cm wide vol 107 L, select slam 41cm fin , carbon boom and mast. Weigh 70 kg. conditions are bay chop when it's around 15kts. I wonder whether anyone sail comfortably around 13kts with this size sail

8.3m is a big sail, i'm 93kg, and unless I have the sail totally balanced and rigged right its a handful. 13kts with what your talking about should be planing no problem at all. With a wider board and bigger fin, you could plane at 10 kts. With my 8.3m, 78cm wide board (i30Litres), and 42cm weed fin, I can plane in 11kts, and once going I can plane through 9 kt lulls. But If I haven't rigged it right, got harness lines in right position, and mastfoot placement right, then once it gets over 14 kts, its a sail that you start fighting with and need brute force to manoeuvre it, I'm 93kg and usually carry 5 litres of water (5kg) of weight. You pay a big price for the extra lift. I deally at your weight the biggest sail on that board would be around 7.5m, but life's never ideal!!

Thanks for all the replies. I know it's big sail for my weight. Actually it's 8m sail with 3 cams. I think ideal for the board is 7.5m . This boards actual volume 107L but fanatic branded it as 113. I'm still playing with sail and board setting so hopefully it would be easier

I used to have sail an 8m2 2cam NP V8, which was my go-to-sail. For me the comfortable windrange was 14-20knots at 85kg. So 10-12 knots as bottom end seems right at 70kg.
Under that i really had to pump the sail and over it became quite a handfull. I now use a no cam 7m2 for 14-18knots, which is equally as powerfull as the 8m2, but a lot easier to pump. I find I like cam sails better when using them in their top-end range. The best sessions I had with the 8m2 was at 18-20 knots.

I have a Falcon 113 and love it. I used to run the 8m 2012 HSM on it and it worked a treat with 40cm Meanline slalom fin. I am 92kg and found at 15kn everything started to boogie for me, so given you are far lighter, your desire of 12-13kn planing will be easily achievable.

My favourite sail for the 113 Falcon for balance, ease and pure enjoyment is a 7.1m (KA Race), with a 36 or 38 fin depending on water state

It's all in technique & effort.

41cm fin should be fine, I run that size select in my 107 isonic with 8.6.

Your falcon is designed to work with a bigger heavier sail than the one you are using though being used in a fair bit more wind. 7.8 tends to be the sweet spot for that size board.

Setup wise you can move the mast foot back a little (if it gets skatey or spinout or cant hold fin down you've gone too far), you need to get the shape out of the water on these short rocker boards, once powered move mastfoot back to ideal. Make sure you have enough downhaul, sail needs to drive forward not drag & bog board down- if sail is pulling but you're not going you dont have enough downhaul.

We used to have a slalom 88 class here- max 8m sail, 80cm board. Most of the sub 78kg guys would be on 69 wides & 7.8's planing in 12 knots at start boat.

Dont be concerned too much about volume, it just gives you that warm fuzzy feeling when you are not planing or uphauling or surrounded by bruce n friends, 107 is easy enough to support that sail.

Thanks for all the tips. Got it going 13-15 knots yesterday . More downhault and mast foot back helped. Next time when it's 12 kts I will test if this setting works. For once waiting for the wind to go down :)
