Yep , good idea.

You can get some pretty tough Sticky tape these days, might be easier than glueing a pipe on.

I did a fairly major emergency repair to one of my sails with clear duct tape, it was over stitching and around an edge. It's now become permanent as I couldnt get it off when I went to do the job properly. Just make sure it's dry, press it down really hard ( I used a small roller) and don't use it for a couple of days.
if it's a structural area I've found monofilm can slide Under the tape so the gap gets a bit wider Along the tear but you won't need to worry about that for what your doing.

Mate thats a SPEED Raceboard from the 90s. Nice bit of kit!! Thatll be easy enough to get the basics down pat n still have a good turn of speed once youre proficient. Have clocked 28kts on mine.
