Are waves sails meant to have a lower cutout than freeride and slalom sails?

The cutout is higher on Freeride/slalom sails for probably two reasons I can think of..

They are normally used on wider boards. You can imagine how high the boom would need to be on a board thats 2m wide.. Whereas wave orientated gear is only really used on boards where you stand real close to the centreline..

And the second could be stance, I don't sail Slalom gear anymore but when I did I always ran with high boom, while at the same time for some silly reason I had my wavesail boom really really low. (I also tied an Onion to my belt, which was the style at the time)

He hee.

Yeah aafter getting some wave sails I noticed the cutout was lower than the freerides I was used to. I'm rough water freeriding rather than wave sailing and seem to always end up with the boom at the top of the cutout wheras it is in the middle on my big freeride sails.

Are u using a wave sail on a freeride board? If so you are probably putting the boom up high to achieve the stance that the board is designed for. A wave sail often does not generate enough mast foot pressure for freeride or slalom boards, nor does it have the range desired, so maybe you are better off with a freeride sail?

Fanatic Freewave 86l @ 58cm wide
Mistral Flow 96l @ 56cm wide
