Ive got a HI FLy Move 2003 (?) model board . Its really deteriorated since I bought it last Autumn.Last sail I had to try & uphaul & clambering on it caused heaps of marks/scratches.I was careful but with the low height of a seat harness hook & tippy board it was impossible not to have the hook touch. Its only cosmetic. The board is yellow & the marks are black where the top layer has been scraped off to show the underlayer..Maybe its my fading memory but I dont remember having trouble like that with earlier glass boards etc..Do modern boards mark more easily?

I think you'll find a lot of those hook marks will just rub away - but not if you've scraped the paint off of course.

My first thought was same as NotWal - they are probably marks on top of the paint, not where the paint has been removed. Jif or Ajax on a wet dishcloth can polish off so many of them and bring a board up really nice.

But if you painted it yes it won't be durable... boards use auto 2 pac which is really rock hard compared to hardware store pressure pack paint.

There is a product called Magic Eraser, available at most supermarkets, designed for getting marks off walls. It is a little sponge block you rub on the mark and the tiny little edges in the foam pick up the dirt. Works really well but can be abrasive if you try too hard. I use it to get the paddle marks off the rails of my SUP, works really well. Would be useless on the deck grip though.

Over the years I have used a variety of solvents and cleaners to remove those marks. However, I really haven't found one that doesn't take some of the finish off. You see a cloudy white residue on your cloth or foam sponge. Have you had that experience? Recently, I started using a product that is for airplanes and named Plastic Cleaner which works well with some elbow grease applied.

Working on an old board, I did respray it with Appliance Epoxy. It was recommended by an experienced sailor. Since I haven't had the board in the water much, I really can't vouch for it fully. It seemed to work, but then again I remember it coming off in places and having used a marine gel to patch it.

I've got a white board, and these marks can be quite noticeable.

I'm not sure that the black marks, are always scratches, they look to me like some kind of oxide which has rubbed off your hook.

I've found that I can get the marks off with with "Jif", fairly easily (one of those abrasive bathroom cleaners).

Rather than use Jiff or Ajax which are both quite abrasive use just some normal toothpaste on a rag, it won't get rid of scratches but it will get rid of rub marks from metal or plastic without rubbing through the paint.

Also

For river stains where your white board starts turning brown, use CLR (from your hardware store) mix up a reasonably strong large batch, close the vent on your board and give one side (at a time) of the board a good soaking using a kitchen sponge after about an hour it should be nice and bright again. Don't forget to rinse it of afterwards.
Any scuff marks left can be removed with the toothpaste

Yes - and I would not bother unless you have a proper spray gun and compressor.

If you do a large area like a board with spray cans, the overspray lands on the bit you just did and makes it orange peely (it looks dimpled).
It is near on impossibe to spray a whole board with cans unless you do about 6 or 8 coats and then rub back to get rid of the orange peel. Then you lose a lot of the gloss unless you know how to compound properly going down thru finer and finer grades of buffing coumpond.
Seek advice from somebody who has sprayed cars before you do a whole board.

(PS don't you have an ASA skinned board? Bit harder to paint properly than a epoxy board)

mark:: not sure what an asa skined board is but its a 2008 goya 75wave .. has many scratches ding and divits .. i was thinking i would peel deck pads of .. sand the grap of the deck and fill all holes over the board to make it all smoother than a babies bottum .. then send it into the boat yard i usto work at to get ir sprayed they usualy spray yacht hulls but he can do my board ... .. also i was thinking about getting the water out of my baord .... anny idears please .. ruffly 2kg of water ... i was thinking fit some sort of fitting into the nose of the board .. exopy to the deck for an air tight seal .. then drilling small holes at the tail .. and putting a small vancumo on the board .. so gravity will help the water out and use the vacume as well ??

Sorry mate I though sboardcrazy was asking about painting a whole board (she didn't quote) I didn't realise it was your question.
Your board is not ASA skinned. It will be easy to paint as per any normal epoxy board.

Dunno how I got so many red thumbs, obviously from people who can spray an entire board with cans from Bunnings and have it look as good as a 2 pack job done by an auto spraypainter.

To get deck pads off is a pain, you have to peel and cut very carefully between the pad and the board witha razor blade or scalpel. Takes a long time to do it properly.

The yacht place should eb able to doa good spray job but i wonder if it is worth it for a board with 2kg of water in it (that is a LOT!).

Look at the Board lady website for water removal there are a few methods but none are really fast.
