I tried the 8.5 KA Formula on the 105 Hypersonic today and while I managed to sail it ok, it was hard work. Winds were 12 - 14 knots.
Can anyone offer any tips regarding using a larger sail on a smaller board? Or is it generally more work than using a smaller sail?

A lot more mass that has to be thrown around but once you realise that in lighter winds you have to use more finesse than strength everything will feel "normal". Waterstarting, gybing and trim all tends to be different in real light winds. Give it a chance it was only your first time on this combo.
A lot of the cremaster crew use that combination ask Geoff,Frant, Cam for more tips..

i use an 8.0 GTX on my hypersonic 105 regularly, i use a 32cm drake race fin.
I found that fins a lot larger dont help that much on the hyper in light condition (compared to normal boardss) & just make it harder work, i use a 38cm fin in marginal conditions, the standard 44 felt too big even with a 9.3.

It certainly felt totally different.
It took me ages to sort out harness line positions. As its the first time I had really rigged this sail, it took me a while to sort outhaul settings. It was very backhanded to start with and at first I thought that was the harness lines but after I increased outhaul a little, it was much better.
I was extremely surprised at how far upwind I could go.
The fin may have been a little small as I spun out a couple of times although the Lake weed doesnt help.
