Lancelin Ocean Classic secures $80,000 TV production

The team from the Lancelin Ocean Classic are happy to confirm they have secured an $80,000 TV production of the event.

The event will be produced by one of Australia’s best production companies Eurocam which has put together shows for events such as the RedBull Air Race, Australian Surf Life saving titles, Red Bull Air Raid, Tour Down Under and many other major events. We will be also be using people in the video industry that are experts in the sport of Windsurfing as consultants.

The show has already secured coverage to countries all over the world including Europe, USA, Asia and Australia with a viewing audience of 10 million people.
I am sure you will all agree this is massive news for the Lancelin Ocean Classic, Lancelin, Tourism for the Area and most of all the sport of Windsurfing.

Watch this space as there is also plenty of other big news on the way in the next couple of days.

All I can say that without a doubt this will be the biggest Lancelin Ocean Classic is its 25 year history.

Should be able to afford the chopper then?

That's great news and should do wonders for the profile of our sport in WA. Well done!

Yes we will have a chopper and lots of camera people... please also note the $80,000 is not cash to the event. The deal is we get the production at no cost to us.

That's great news.

Can you now afford the $500 or so it would take to properly set up the website registration?

I think Nebbian just gave you a quote .

You should take him up on his offer.

Awesome - but make sure they shoot lots of wave action !!!!! Don't let them take the easy way out and just shoot the race which looks boring to non windsurfers

(disclaimer; before any racers get upset I did not say it is boring or easy, just that people who don't understand the sport think it all looks much of a muchness afetr 2mins. )

Au contraire!

I'm not saying don't shoot the waves but...

taken in context I think the race is actually far more exciting to the non-windsurfer. Imagine the build up; this is Pete Volwater form the Netherlands who has won the last two and he's whatever in the world, and then there's Robby Swift from the UK, and he's that blah blah...and then there is Australia's brightest hope Mr Slowboat who was third in 2008 and then second in 2009 and....can he win it this year?...let's take a look at the action....

The start of the race is potentially the most spectacular sight in windsurfing, in the world!

The concept is so simple - "Swiss speed demon Patrik Diethelm has got a lead at the first mark but Lockwood is bearing down on him - can he hold him out...oh and someone's crashed!" etc etc.

Anyway, you see my point; racing of any kind is always a winner with spectators (think motor racing, cycling, running...anything) and windsurfing is no different, except that it is an incredibly spectacular and beautiful sport to go with it. A well-produced movie of the 30 minute race would make fantastic viewing from start to finish.

Sorry still disagree.

Every time I show windsurfing vids to non windsurfers they exclaim "wow he is going so fast!!!" when they see some nice flat out sailing, espcially in chop when the board is airborne 50% of the time.
However after 2 mins of that it all looks the same to them

They watch wavesailing and last a lot longer before they think they have 'seen it all'

peolpe only watch car racing because aerial car driving doesn't exist. i'd love to watch cars do double forwards. even as a windsurfer i get a bit bored after a minute or two of watching slalom. id still love to see it on tv though. just don't miss the waves
