Just got back from an awesome session down at Safety Bay. While I was there I saw this poor bugger swimming back to shore from just outside the duck pond. He broke his mast, his mast extention and his fin all at the same time. I'm guessing it was a chain reaction but how about that for bad luck? He didn't hit the sand bar, he was just gybing. I couldn't believe it.

Seems very improbable to me, may be he did something really stupid and didn't want to admit to it. Be good if somebody actually witnesed what happened.

How can you brake a mastextension???
I broke my mast last weekend. Made a jump and my rig just collapsed when i landet on the water. Teared also my sail. while packing together about 500m of shore i lost my mastextension. Its a bit trickey to pack together in rough seas and hold on to all the bits at the same time. after 45 minutes of paddeling and 20 minutes walking back up the beach i went home and fell asleep.

I reckon that guy hit the sand bank, and landed on his sail.
I broke my mast extension once with my hip.
I was jibing down a swell, fell off, landed on the board on my arse and skidded into the mast that was still upright. Snapped it clean in half.
It happened between Pengos and seal island. Took me about an hour to swim in.

i bent a mast extension 90 degrees. happend in a wave on a sand bank i guess the mast caught on the sand... better that than the mast i guess.
