My new select fin is a little bit loose in my jp and I was wondering if anyone has got some advise (related to this topic) on how to shim my fin? I have usually just used a epoxy mix on my tuttle fins but the select powerbox fin I have, looks to have a plastic base on it.

Cheers,
Chris

Plastic cordial bottle cut into 1-2cm wide strips. Wrap them around the base of the fin at 90 degrees forming small U's. Shove the fin in.
Usally works but if the fin edge is too sharp they may be cut.

hi reiffo, try using some old monofilm from a dead sail or get some from a shop/sail loft cut them to suit your fin's base shape and go sailin'.made mine,3 of,in '94 still going now.the other + is you can get it in various sizes to suit your fins "play".

I refitted a tuttle fin with Kneeadit epoxy by

  • Identifying which part of the fin base was resonsible for the loose fit
  • Scuffing up and cleaning base of fin
  • applying a liberal coat of vaseline to the inside of the fin box
  • Wash hands properly
  • mix the Kneadit (I used Steel Putty)
  • Apply to area of fin base where required (more is better than less)
  • Fit fin to board then screw in to desired depth
  • Leave fin fitted till epoxy set
  • When set carefully remove fin from fin box and trim excess epoxy from fin base

Hope this helps
