Hi, I am new to the site, been windsurfing a few years, and recently gave in to my nagging kitesurf mates and gave it a go. I have to say, it's fun.
Anyway, the reason I tried it was because of the resort we were in - Paradise Resort, Ras Matarma Bay, Ras Sudr. I thought, if i am going to try kitesurfing anywhere, it has got to be here. Enormous lagoon bay, waist deep water for 800m from the shore, etc etc... a real undiscovered gem, chilled out with a friendly vibe, I'd recommend it to anyone, kitesurfer or windsurfer. It is THE best place I have ever been to , by a long way...
I have been back there several times, and will go several more. In the meantime, anyone got any tips for other fab places to go? I have ben to Tariffa, Hurghada, and Margaritta. All good, but where next? Where are the best places, worldwide...?

Only place I've personally seen is Mui Ne Beach in Vietnam. Constantly decent winds all year round. Even though kite surfing is big there like windsurfing, it doesn't have long stretches of shallow water. Think appeal is a great country, fantastic food and people, super cheap and not certain but I believe it is a Starboard test centre. Either way, loads of equipment for hire as well as instructors.

From North America, places east are Hatteras and sundry places in the Carribeans. Bonaire, Cuba, Dominica. Cancun at one point, etc.

I always take other sailors' experiences with a grain of salt. For instance, they go often, but always the same time of the year. You go 2 months early or one later and it's awful. So it depends on place and time of year.

Case in point - Hatteras. Vacationing sailors used to be full of superlatives, but the real story is much diluted now...

Other criteria are: the place - do you like to beach versus some large cities and things to do as well at night. Prevailing winds at the time - I don't care for a 20 knot wind if it's offshore. Flaky versus consistent. I'd rather sail in waves, so basically most of those places above are out and it's Hawaii for me (including back in Feb!). And so on.

Basically, heed not just any advice. Decide of your personal criteria first. For windsurfing - waves or flat, wind strength, etc. Then look up charts for prevailing winds at that time of travel.

Happy hols.
