If I wanted to film myself to get advice on how to improve my jibes, where would be the best camera position? I assume there are many brands of sports cameras now, does it really matter which type to get? I don't want to spend a ton of money...

Off the end of the boom as its easy to make, broom stick, anything ...... camera pointed roughly at the end of bottom batten.

Old Gopro 3 would cost you very little and shoot just fine

Mast top and helmet as it will give feet , hand and body position all at once

Just get a mate to film you with their phone. Gybe around them.

Couple of mounts here seem to breach the "don't wanna spend a ton of money" criteria

I love the nose mount but found it really annoying with waterstarts but then again that's with wavesailing where stuff gets turned around more I guess

My favorite is the end of boom mount. It is easy and cheap to fabricate a mount from pvc pipe parts.

If you plan to buy a GoPro, go for nothing less than the GoPro 5 since it has built in GPS. Eventually you will want GPS to record, and display, your speed and track. GoPro 5 is no longer expensive.

I might get a used Hero6, it has the improved image stabilization. Boom end sounds ok.

2 hand GoPro 3-4 are pretty cheap if you're not after the latest and greatest

The best is someone on the shore but if you can't do that I find the wizmount ( on the stick out the back of your harness) is best. It shows the whole gybe well. Some people make their own?
Warts and all..

If you want to improve your skills, a mount that shows your footwork and sailwork is the best. That means, in my book, a back of boom mount. I made my own. See photo. The youtube here shows what you can see with it. Camera is a Contour Plus with GPS, but I prefer the lighter weight of the GoPro 5 Black with GPS.
