north and NP are supposed to be OK, probably best to use RDM for the wave sails but i havent got around to do it either... and one batten below the boom on one of my older sails in particular is a bit of a b-arch on the rotation..
hopefully i break a afew up at gnaraloo in september and will be forced to make the move..
If you are mixing brands of mast and sail you'll really need to rig it before buying it anyway to see if it works.
i found as early as about 2004 models with Simmer that even thought they were designed to work on either, a SDM was quite tight in the sleeve. I imagine many brands are the same by now, 6yrs later
I was still using an SDM in new NP Alphas this year until the old mast broke under no load one day. Simple fatigue, I think. Went skinny. TBH, I don't really notice a big difference. Sure, the skinny slides in more easily and may well be stronger, but I don't break gear much. I still have a 400SDM that will see many years of service yet.
Cheers for the responses and the good news. My trusty masts can be flogged to death instead of a cushy forced retirement. Good not to have to buy 2 new masts and mast extension as well as new sails.
Sorry Lil' Jon, I already have an SDM quiver and I won't be buying any more when they need replacing.
