Hard to believe, but despite sailing for 15 years, and having the resources, I have never been to Maui. I might be in a position to go this winter, but don't have a travel buddy, and I'm not keen to go alone.
CAn anyone point me in the direction of an organised trip, or a group that goes I might tag along with etc ?
I'm last-minority 46 yr young, sober but not strait-laced and keen to dig into some big wind sailing.

I will be there from 24 to 31 July.

I am a 42 yo really average sailor. Back in the game for a year after a 20 year break.

I thought i'd go to see if I can make more jibes than i miss.

Am not scared of going alone and am heading there for a reco. My partner is keen to go there next year for yoga and my excuse is I will go and have a look around. So I get there with her blessing.

Have you caught on to a tour?

Yes, I ended up tagging along with the guys from Surf FX. I'll be there from June 14 for 8 days. I'm coming home a few days before the other guys.
I was pretty surprised that no-one really seems to talk about their Maui trips much.
Almost like it's a dirty secret.

Hi Ken,
I just had my first trip there this year also. Sailing by myself but most people on the beach at Kanaha very friendly and full of advice.
Saw on another post you were going to get a Gopro HD. I bought another one over there. Great shop called Hawaiian Island Surf and Sport diagonally opposite NP Maui on the Hana highway has a full stock of everything incl mounts-except the anti fogs which they were waiting for-WHICH YOU WILL NEED!! ph 808 871 4981
Also a gaggle of kiwis from Chch going to be there also around that time.
Wish I was going myself!!

Thanks for that tip. Swoosh also suggested I wait and buy one over there to save a little money. They are pretty well priced here though at $400 through most places including Seabreeze, so not sure if there is much room to save there, esp wiht our exchange rate going down the pooper. I might still buy one here to give me familiarization time.
What are the anti-fogs ? Is it a solution ? Fogging usually happens when you go from cool air-con to warm humid outside air, no ??

Just checked that store, USD $269.99 vs which is AUD$336 at the current exchange rate, 80c. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm.

see link re anti fogs.
gopro.com/en/au/?area=2&productid=37

Trust me they work and are resuable. All kinds of theories of ways to reduce or eliminate fogging on the HD-these work every time. Nothing worse than a great session that ends up on the 'cutting room floor'

OK, that makes sense now. Fogging on the inside of the housing, cos it's a watertight seal.
