Lookin for some ideas...

Being an intermediate 103kgs sailor using Starboard s-Type 137 on port phillip bay - no wave mostly often wind blown messy waves and chop.

The s-type is great fun for the top end speed, but when it hits the chop it's like an inflatable pool toy filled with helium. Jumping this board is scary and I've managed to twist up my feet and ankles a few times on landing/crashing as it flicks around in the air.

Suffice to say I've a lot to learn in the gentle art of jumping but I have the feeling this board is not the best platform on which to improve.

I am interested in any thoughts on an alternate board to better cope with conditions and possibly improve jumping control and give some hope that it won't end up in boom sandwich or ankle/metatarsal demolition BUT be able to cope with my 103 bulk, without turning into a sinker board.

I reckon something like one of the bigger Starboard Kombats would be perfect.

I'm 110kgs and after having a go on only a couple of boards, I agree with Mr Lourrrve!

A mate has a Starboard Aero, very short & wide, and a handful of fun!!! Very fast to the plane for us big guys, and being short, very responsive...I reckon the width would be an issue if you were looking at purely wave surfing, but for general chop-hopping and weaving around in the bay.....Top Fun!

Saying that, I have an '03 Fanatic Cross, it's a great board as well for an all-rounder!

I've got a mate (here in Melb) who's got a 117 lt Kombat.
It's an '07 and in great nick. Last weekend I spoke to him and he was considering trading it in on something bigger. (he's a big guy who probably wants about 130 lt as his main board) He's also the sort of guy who would probably let you try his Kombat to see if it's what you're after.

Yeah I am kinda wary of the 114 being so close to my actual weight! - just jumped on the scales and have to admit and extra 7kegs are on there... so with a 4 ltr margin the 114 board may be on the sinker side. - Need to get onto that diet....

Maybe a trial swap on the next decent northerly blow just to see.. you guys sail at greens?

Yep - I was down there trucking around with the stype and 6.5, which was good after the squalls died down - ala true northerly unreliable style.

Will have to id you somehow next time - looks like next weekend 'might' bring some more northerly breeze.
