Yeah shark attack stories freak me out. This one was at Crowdy Head at 7pm tonight (Wednesday). Crowdy is only 2 stretches of beachs south from here. Gidget's home break. That's 2 attacks in nearly so many weeks.

The surf conditions have been excellent today at most local breaks, so it was no surprise for someone to keep on surfing till nearly dark....the worst time of day to be in the water.

Fishermen will be interested to hear that the sharks are coming in close, which means there are other things in there that are attracting them. It's also the time of year when the sea garfish start schooling up close and it's them that everything larger is interested in. If you know what LBG is I think it's going to be a good season.

If you are a surfer (what ever discipline) or swimmer beware.

An ab diver killed in SA was wearing one when he was taken. The jury is still out as to their effectiveness.

Given that I wear one while spearfishing, I'm keen to read the stament where this has been confirmed.
All I read was that he endorsed the device, and the statement "I'm sure he would have one on him".

yeah, i'm not to sure what the deal was with the diver. we had this exact conversation up at burrum where one of the sunny coast guys was looking into getting one.

he thought that the diver had switched the device off to save batteries but i am not sure if this is true or not.

I suggest they put a white line on the sea bed about 1km offshore and make it illegal for sharks to cross it!
I am not trivialising the plight of the two poor guys who got bitten but in the time frame of the two shark incidents I would guess a significant number of people died and even more would have had horrific, yet unreported, injuries from traffic crashes!!
We think nothing of driving to our favourite spot, separated from any number of turkeys driving drunk, drugged, distracted, fatigued, depressed and we are only separated from them by a white line.
I too get a bit jumpy when I'm alone out on the water with my little legs flapping frantically trying to get the sail up out of the water but I'd rather take my chances with the sharks than my fellow motorists!!!

I heard this one trillion times. Doesn't stand for me.
How many professional abalone divers? How many got killed by shark?
I suspect a much higher percentile...

As far as I'm concern, 1 shark life - 200 herring lifes. I prefer to see a humble herring.

My heart goes to the Amazon frogs.
