Was looking at getting a Chinook Wave Triple Clamp boom:

http://www.chinooksailing.com/products/product_info.php?cPath=1_27&products_id=99&osCsid=b899e7517cacfc660c809869280a75f5

Opinions? Or other cheaper recommendations? I think these are going for $300.

In that price range the Chinook is the one. Actually no, I'd say equal to homegrown Hydrodynamix, but some would say the Hydro is better

For wave I would not go cheaper than $300 anyway.

The Tecnolimitz ergal alloy is the best ally boom on the market (Windshack sell them) but it puts you up to $500ish

Have never said I didnt use to dance.dont tell anyone

Might have even once been a well loved forum dancer here.

Whats wrong with the hyper sonic carbon wave boom anyway.
Bit more expensive but well worth the extra coin spent.

Sorry I apologise, I didn't realise you used to sail.

Even less excuse for your rampant trolling then I guess.

Given your username all your booms would be Zed booms wouldn't they?

Anyone had any experience with the new NP X3's? I think these are are around the same price as the Chinook. I was talking to a guy down the beach who was raving about the X3's......said they'd sorted out a lot of the problems with the previous model and the 'S Shape' profile of the arms prevented flex when really powered up. Also, is this 'New School' profile all it's cracked up to be?

Zed's boom or Zed's booms as opposed to Zed's Zed boom

I used to have a Zed boom back a few years. It's one of the reasons I use an under hand grip on my leading arm !

Sadly my old Zed's Dead... 'Zed's Dead baby'

Go Carbon Zed... a carbon boom that is not a carbon zed... mind you a carbon zed would rock.

Carbon?

I would if I could, but I can't. If I explained to my wife I'd spent $1k on a boom she would wait till I fell asleep, then place a sheeps castration ring around my balls. I like my balls. Aluminum for me.

Kitz 92. I've got a 200 - 250 NP X3 - swaged front end etc but can hardly notice the S curve in it (I think it's more pronounced on the shorter lengths).

No complaints so far - but by main criteria is that it doesn't break rather than be 3.7% stiffer than the next alternative. I'm 104kg and using it mainly with 20cm extension for a 7.4 freeride sail for lake / flatwater blasting.

Not sure about prices in Aus but in NZ Chinook was more expensive than Naish CT. Very happy with the Naish, took a while to get used to reduced diameter grip which I now prefer, like the continuous front end and shape for gybing.

P.S. wouldn't bother with the Global Wave (hybrid with same Alu front end and carbon tail). Could barely tell the difference in weight and the clamps seemed to have some movement making the all Alu CT boom stiffer.

Just my $0.02
