We got to test the "Secret" lake on Xmas day and let me tell you that it's fastly becoming my favourite spot to sail. Getting shallower by the day but in the nor'easter and at the southern end of the lake there is more then enough water. Slightly more choppy then the southerly but still rather flat, a bit more of an opportunity for the odd chop hop but it's a great place for gybe practice.....It's good to know that it works in a nor'easter as well

dezza if your not too far away from sanctuary point and want a bit of flat water blasting and brush up on your jibes, at the moment its the place to sail, no need for a weedy because most of the weed died off when it emptied, all we need is an extra 12'' or so of water and it would be perfect

How deep is it mostly? I run an 18cm fin so don't really need much...as long as you can stand up when you fall in i'm sold, makes learning new freestyle tricks so much easier. Next time i'm down Gerroa way i'll have to come and check it out. Is it as windy as Gerroa/the heads there?

Chris, It's mostly thigh deep but deeper and shallower in other areas, I've not been in a spot where I can't touch the bottom. As the crows fly it's not far from Shoalhaven heads and seems to get the full force of the seabreeze, Just like Gerroa it has some holes but not as gusty as Gerroa. It seems to have a wind tunnel effect in one area where you get whipped up to warp speed straight into a super flat section, good for gybes or freestyle tricks(if i could freestyle). I run a 23cm weedy and only have problems from the launching area as it is quite shollow for a bit, but a lighter guy on a freestyle board shouldn't have too much of a problem. Did you get your new weed fin? it would be ideal for there.

I've sailed it with an 18cm fin. It's not too bad, from the launch you still have to walk but mostly it's fine. Plus the bottom is weedy rather than rocky so you fin drag rather than suddenly stop. More of a worry is that if you're falling continuously trying some move, you want to do that in the bits that aren't 18cm deep, also you don't want to plant the nose too far into the water.

Not much floating weed/grass, just big clumps of that net like weed. Don't really need a weed fin in the deeper part I think.

Thanks jase, I will have a look next drive down that way and see if I can find the spot, think I know where. the wind seems to be further up north this week but had a good hour at sanctuary point yesterday morning
