Go for a board around 2.5m long and 75-80cm wide around 140l. It will enable you to uphaul and be a good light wind board for you to blast around on when you get the hang of it.

I'd go something like a 122L JP excite ride or even 116L All ride.

Starboard Futura or Carve as well would be good.

If you get something around 120L it should be plenty to uphaul on

I am 67 kg. I learnt on a Jp Fun Ride 130. My first sail was a 6.1 NP Fusion but i bought a 5.5 Fusion soon after and i would recommend that you go for the 5.5 first. Forgiving board, easy sails to rig and also have good power. I've got 2 pro edition boards now and still use the Fusions most of the time so they are the sort of sail that will last you a long time even when you get better and they are very well priced relative to other NP sails. Do yourself a favour though and buy a nose protector for the board you buy. It won't be if, it will be when as far as damaging the nose of the board while you are learning.

I weigh about 63-64kgs and have a Tabou Rocket 125 as my larger board.I can uphaul it.It used to feel unstable to me at first but I'm used to it now but I've been sailing for 20years. If you live somewhere that gets a lot of lighter winds you may be better with a 130odd ltre one ( you'll probably use it mostly once you get used to it rather than the older board ).Having said that my board has double concaves which make it less stable to uphaul than a flat bottomed board so you may get by with a slightly smaller flat bottomed board.

Sorry about topic Bombing here, but i'm 85kg and bought a 160 funster to learn on and to use with the family. I was looking at getting a 120L board, Tabou Rocket, All Ride etc... next. Probably won't be able to uphaul but not looking for a board that bouyant. any suggestions, sail size?

I have a125 Tabou Rocket & I've sailed a 120 JP XCite ride.The excite was easier /more stable to uphaul .I'm not sure which is faster . I still like the rocket.You probably wouldn't be worried about uphauling if its your smaller board. The Tabou is easy to sail and gybes smoothly and easily.

Stu, you will uphaul a 120L no prob's after some trying, but yeah more for when the wind dies and can't waterstart

This is my second season.
In my first season I went out from August to October with a 200 and a 5 mt sail.
Now I moved to:
Ezzy Freeride 5.5
JP Funride 145L
Ezzi RDM mast
I am going now to buy a 6.5 Ezzy Freeride for the light days (10-15) as my 5.5 doesn't plan before 15-20 knots; probably because I am still learning.
Personally, I will also suggest you two fixed lines, 22 and 26 and start with them as soon as you can.
Leave the footstraps for when you will be able to plan on a harness; before that they are useless.
Last one, learn water start ASAP!! It will make a huge difference.
