anyone outthere got a 5.7+ on a 430 powerex skinny they are really happy with...????????

I want a well balanced wave sail, nice belly and draught......) giving that nice forward pull.....

so far i've tried kaos, ezzy, goya, tushy rock, arrows and nathans simmer which so far has been the best....the rest have been ok but could do better.... i'm fussy!!

Any input appreciated

the kaos 5.7 from around that vintage did cop some comments about lack of draft. this was not a problem in the 5.3 of similar vintage.

never really bothered me as i was on the 6.4 kult in the light stuff and on the 5.7 when it was howling.

but the lighter guys preferred the 5.3 over the 5.7 for the lighter stuff because the 5.3 seemed to have more draft.

from what i understand. KA listened to the feedback from the average joe sailors and made the more recent 5.7 kaos fuller.

i reckon you should try the new model. everyone i know that owns one talks highly of them and generally they run them with skinny's.

I've been using a 2004, 2005 & now 2006 X-Flex from Simmer Sails on a 430 PowerEx RDM.

I'm a big fella so I like a bit of belly in my sails and find the
X-Flex does it for me no problems, plus there like bomb proof sails but the only real issue is for a grest sail little mistakes let them down like the wrong settings printed on them in the factory and the mast foot bash pad stiching coming apart, just stupid little things but I hear that now that the factory has ben relocated to Sri Lanka things have picked up, if that's true or not?????

The 5.7mtr would do the same job as my 5.3mtr in the way of rigging with belly......

Hope this helps

Windy, You may like the Cross Over even more. Its more full bodied, and I think slightly lighter, but still one of their real wave sails.

Windy,

Ezzy 5.8 works really well for me on that mast. I have the 2007 version, but also liked the 2002 model which has much less draft.

Cheers, Jens

While not a wave sail I run the Ezzy Infinity 5.7 2006 model on a 430 rdm - great performance and range ( 17-34 knots) I'm 88kg and will ride it on 80-65 litres.

Don't even think about rigging this sail on a std mast - performance and range are rubbish. (not enough draft and bottom end and too 'twithcy' when fully powered.

WM I'm going to agree with the SIMMER

I've been on them exclusively for 10yrs plus, best power wave sails on the market

The Crossover kicks arse, it won mag tests in wave, freestyle and freeride tests as the wind range is phenomenal, low end power very good but the wind range will blow u away.
I just sold one in 5.7, bummer if u asked a month ago I'd let you borrow it to try and then you'd max the credit card and get a quiver of them.

I'm using the X-flex but in bigger sizes the Vision is a bit more stable (same cut but mono so feels a bit more solid / locked in power / crisp).

For onshore wave and pure grunt it is the Crossover all round

Windy, The cross overs and visions go up to large sizes. I think they make something like a 6.9 as well in those. It will be the cross over you want for some real onshore power. Ask John from SOS, he should have a PDF with all the sails in which he can email you. Nathan

WM I'm on X-flex up to 5.6 and my big sail is a 6.1 Vision.

In the other ranges (Crossover and Icon) it is a 6.2 in that size bracket. They go up to about 6.9 and the Crossover may have a 7.2 (ish) ???? now they dropped the dedicated freestyle line.

I can't say enough good things about them.

Email the designer, Jason Diffin, he's a top bloke and will answer all your q's very thoroughly. I email him ever year basically about the new range and how to rig them etc and get blown away by his helpfulness.
I have two emails listed in my address book so he must have changed at some stage.

I have jason AT simmerhawaii.com and jasondiffin AT simmerhawaii.com (that is my anti phishing email harvesting virus speak, cool huh)

Anyway appears their sites are all down (they have 3 or so) so if the email doesn't work try emailing Keith Taboul at Quatro, he knocks around with JD all the time and he uses Simmer.

Buy one

hey windy, there are shops in W.A that will get sailworks for you, i have a quiver of them, sailworks backbone and powerex mast are a pretty close match, sails are grunty as hell i used to run a 5.8m, this year i droped my biggest size down to 5.6m. bomb proof sails, i don't think twice about putting mine through the lip of a head high wave, never damaged one yet. payed around $790 for my 5.6m.

Okie dokie.. i don't know if anyone else said it already.

BUT

Naish Boxer in the bigger sizes i reckon is the go. they rig on a 400 mast so in stead of getting a big mast you rarely use .. get another 400 that you can use as a back up to the current one and get a boxer..

pretty cool sails

sorse is on the money.
very very rare to see a sailworks die.
i changed from a 05 5.4 to an 07 5.2 and the 5.2 feels lighter but gruntier. awesome sails.

At the risk of semi hijacking (mohammed die preisdent kill kill bomb usa) the thread... sorry windymill:

I dunno about wave sails where the whole range rigs on a 400.

Reason is, virtually all wave sails that most people use most of the time rig on a 430. By that I mean most wavesailing seems to be done with the 5.2 - 6.0 range of sails. It is rare to use a 5.0 mostly cos if you did that would mean you are a lightweight and / or live in Ho'okipa.

Thus if you buy a whole quiver that set on a 400, great you can afford to have spare masts. BUUUTTTTT: flipside. When you shred your 5.8 Boxer beyond belief and have to buy a "new" sail but can only afford secondhand, you *have to* buy a 5.8 Boxer or one of the other very few sails of that size that rig on a 400.

Much easier to find a secondhand sail if you have a choice of 40 (my guesstimate) wave sail ranges that rig on a 430. Of those about half will rig goodly enough on your existing mast.

I live in a remote loaction with no shops, limited choices, nasty waves etc much like you Curac so I'm all for mixnmatch compatibility

If all manufacturers did their whole wave rang on a 400, top stuff. But very few ranges are cut on a 400 so I'll steer clear.

Hey Mark,

I'm regretting getting a 430 for my small sails (5.7 and 5.0) now. I would have been better off getting a 400 skinny. My 5.7 (North) is recommended to set on a 400.

Was checking out the Gun and Loft sails, everything's running 400 skinnies now, it's gotten to the point that buying a fat 430 mast is only good for cammed sails. I must say I'm disappointed though, if the Gun and Loft sails are the budget range, then surely they'd be built for a budget mast? Noooooo they want you to shell out craploads of dosh for a skinny.

And that's not to mention companies like Pryde (one extreme) and Gaastra (the other extreme) that decided that they're going to change where the masts flex the most, just so you have to buy that particular brand's mast! If I could shoot the guy who made that decision I would save the bullet and drive bamboo stakes underneath his fingernails, set fire to them, and then whack him in the nuts repeatedly with his non-fkn-standard mast.

Sorry about the rant but I had to vent after doing some research last night

jeez,

i am on the other end of the stick. my 430 mast will run my KA wave sails from a 7m down to a 5m. covers an amazing range.

been thinking lately about getting the illusive 4.7 but need another mast to do it. still glad i went with the 430!
