Wanted to try wind surfing for a long time & finally had a go today in a 12kn SW.

I've got a 8'10 Starboard Widepoint sup that has a hole for a mast. Mate lent me his sail & gave me a lesson on how to pull the sail up out of the water, how to turn the board while your doing it & how to get going.

Took quite a few goes but eventually sailed out & drifted back in trying to work out how to sail back in with the wind. I was surprised coz I thought it would be a lot easier sailing in with the wind than against it. Few more goes & I was able to wobble my way in as well.

So fun, I'm stoked...got something to do on the small swell onshore days over summer

Someones pointed out Mark_Australia's thread about getting the mast plug freewheeling in his sup which caused him some grief getting out. Does anyone know if the 2015 SB widepoints could have that same issue with insufficient build hold on the screw insert. I know I have to take it easy with it, just wanna learn on it before getting good beginner/intermediate gear...but that thread has me worried

Sounds good Fishlogan. If you've used it regularly & its been ok that fills me with a little more confidence. After doing a bit of reading. Starboard also make wind surfing boards, so they should have some idea *touch wood* I thought they just specialised in sups.

Not so worried about the plug ripping out, that should be an easy fix. Just didn't want to tell my friend I was sorry but my board refused to give his gear back
